Autumn 2018 New print, blog and broadcast media born in the province

A number of new publications have seen the light in the Bokone Bophirima province during the last few months. And what is more, they have all been conceptualised and are owned by SMMEs from the province.

The new-comers to the media stall of the province are:

 Naledi News  Northwestnewsonline.com  Platinum TV  North West Insider and  Kgwele

Naledi News is a weekly newspaper for the Bojanala District published on Thursdays. Its tagline aptly reads: “Your news in Bojanala”. A current print run of 5 000 copies per week are distributed to the areas of Brits, Rustenburg, Mogwase, Koster, Swartruggens, Hartebeespoortdam and Hammanskraal, at a mere R3.50 per copy.

Distribution points for Naledi News are spaza shops and other similar VTSD outlets throughout Bojanala.

The paper has brought unemployed youth on board to become re-sellers of the paper, as well as for sourcing advertisers and contributing news stories. For as little as R14.00 a month, readers can subscribe to receive their weekly copy of Naledi News.

Naledi News offers competitive advertising rates, as it targets local entrepreneurs from Bojanala to become its regular advertisers and contributors. News and contributions for coverage can be sent to [email protected], while advertising can be booked by phoning Nyakallo Mosala on 078 285 9247.

Northwestnewsonline.com is a news blog that carries the latest news and events, with a focus on the North West Province. Since both the blog and Naledi Newspaper are owned by Quick Acts Consulting Services (Pty) Ltd, adverts that are booked in the Naledi Newspaper can be automatically reflected on the blog as a complimentary value add. The blog’s current contributors are Ananias Ndlovu, Nyakallo Mosala and Nombulelo Konco.

Ananias Ndlovu, Contributor and Business Manager of Quick Acts, explains that future plans for the blog include adding the functionality of live streaming, so that in the near future, key events happening in and around the province, can be streamed live on the blog to a large audience. Platinum TV - broadcast on Tshwane TV

Platinum TV is a television broadcast entity in the North West province that has been issued an ICASA (broadcast) license.

The station was conceptualised and founded by Kopano Molefe. Kopano is also the man behind Tshwane TV, which currently broadcasts on DTSV Channel 262. As such, plans are underway to secure a number of slots per week for Platinum TV to broadcast on the already existing platform of Tshwane TV.

Such an agreement shall ensure television exposure for the North West, on a platform that reaches nationally and into Africa, through DSTV Channel 262.

Platinum TV brings together the talents and strengths of three companies from the province, namely Quick Acts, Platinum TV and Black Frame Media.

North West Insider & Kgwele

North West Insider and Kgwele are free community newspapers. Both papers are published by Lefetlho Media Specialists (Pty) Ltd. The company was registered in 2015, with experienced journalist Ofentse Letlape as its founder and publishing editor.

North West Insider is a tabloid publication while Kgwele communicates football news across the province. The publications are based in with a footprint spread across the North West Province.

The main area of distribution is Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, but includes the areas of Mahikeng, Ventersdorp, Colingy, , Lichtenburg, , , , Verdwaal and .

The papers are distributed at clinics, tuck shops, malls, police stations, tribal offices, municipalities and taxi ranks, whilst specific locations could be included upon request.

Ananias Ndlovu

When a son of the soil of Bokone Bophirima celebrates twenty years in the South African media industry, he deserves a special mention.

Such a stalwart journalist, businessman and mentor is Ananias Ndlovu.

Ananias grew up in Brits, and this year on 1 June, he shall be celebrating twenty years in journalism and media when looking back upon his first appointment at The Star on 1 June 1998.

Ananias obtained his Diploma in Journalism from the then Technikon of Northern Transvaal (TNT), whilst also completing certificates in investigative journalism, media, broadcasting and radio during the span of his career. During his two-decade career, Ananias worked at The Star, Daily Sun, Letlhabile Community Radio Station, Wits University and the Wits Radio Academy, among other.

Currently Ananias is the business manager for Quick Acts Consulting Services, in partnership with owner- director Ntabiseng Tau.

Ananias writes for Naledi News and the blog Northwestnewsonline whilst also promoting print, on-line and broadcast media in the province. Ananias is an active pioneer in arranging events; and provides mentorship, guidance and advice to both peers and rookies in the media industry.
