While many fans still hold out hope that Jon Snow is not in fact dead and could return to “Game of Thrones,” Kit Harington — the actor who portrays the character — is not so optimistic.

“Quite honestly, I have never been told the future of things in this show, but this is the one time I have,” Harington said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW). “They sat me down and said, ‘This is how it is.’ … I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really.”

Deadline reported in October that Harrington — along with others from the show, including Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau — received “major salary increases.” The stars were believed to be making close to $300,000 an episode.

According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Harington was named as one of the “Game of Thrones” stars signing on for Seasons 6 and 7 in exchange for the pay increase. But in light of Jon Snow’s shocking death, this information was not 100 percent accurate.

When asked about the cast salary contract articles, Harington told EW, “As far as the salary thing goes, that angered me when that story came out. I don’t know where it came from, but it was inaccurate in many ways.”

The most obvious inaccuracy, Harington said, is that fans might believe that Snow will return for the show’s sixth and seventh seasons. “It’s going to put questions into your head and into fans’ heads that things are not what they are,” he said.

Now, Harington said he’s looking forward to new projects. “I’m in a very lucky place — I can turn things down and do what I want to do,” he said.

That freedom likely also comes with financial freedom, as Harington’s time on “Game of Thrones” has made him a popular actor who can command big-time salaries. “There’s a couple movies I’m looking at,” Harington added. “I might take a holiday. I might try writing. I’m trying to figure it out.”
