Without stretching your imagination too far, it is clear that anyone can be impacted by hunger. Al- most 3 million people in New York City struggle to put food on the table. These are our neighbors, co-workers, and friends—maybe even our family members. For 28 years, Food Bank For New York City has been a stronghold of support for those in need. From emergency food to income support and nutrition education, people from various backgrounds have counted on us as their lifeline during tough times. Since our inception, we have distributed more than 1 billion pounds of food, including 14 million servings of fresh produce each year. For many families, our network of 1,000 programs, throughout all 5 boroughs, provides the only source of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and fish. A focus on people and research has enabled us to develop a broader picture of what causes hunger and new strategic solutions we can utilize as we work to end it. Our free Income Tax Services have brought more than half a billion dollars back into struggling communities since its inception. In 2011, our CookShop Program taught 135,000 children, teens and adults to live healthier lifestyles. Our Harlem based Community Kitchen & Food Pantry reaches 90,000 families each year. As proud as we are of our accomplishments to date, we realize there is still substantial work necessary to achieve our goals. With this in mind, we are heightening our focus on excellence and innovation in our programming and community efforts. So what will the future look like? We are looking forward to bolder, more impactful strategies that will change perspectives about how to combat hunger and empower communities. In the midst of uncertainty, it is clear that New Yorkers need hope. By focusing on individuals, we look beyond the numbers and see the people who are struggling to survive and maintain dignity. We are indebted to the continued support of our partners. We are more than a warehouse or a Community Kitchen. In partnership with our citywide charity network, we are a lifeline to the more than 1.5 million New Yorkers deserving to receive needed support with dignity. We are an organization doing something great—and striving to do some- thing even greater. Thank you for joining the fight. A character actor can show up in a couple scenes—maybe only for five minutes—and even in that small moment, they could make a film. My guest, Tony Shalhoub, can do that. While a star, of course, you build a whole movie or a TV show around. They’re relatable. Charming. Vulnerable. But my guest, Tony Shalhoub can do that, too. He’s a veteran of both the big and small screens. [Music fades out.] He’s had unforgettable parts in movies like Bart & Fink, Men in Black, Quick Change. He’s starred in movies like Big Night and TV shows like Wings. And, of course, the hit detective series, Monk. These days, he’s a regular on the Amazon show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It’s a dramedy set in the late 1950s. Rachel Brosnahan plays the title character, Midge Maisel. When the series starts out, Midge is a housewife living in Manhattan who puts her old life behind her to take up stand-up comedy.

  • 2 Days in NEW York PRESENTED by ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
The Premieres program showcases some of the most highly anticipated dramatic films of the coming year. Catch world premieres and the latest work from established directors at the Sundance Film Festival before they create a splash at local theatres. 2 DAYS IN New York DIRECTOR: Julie Delpy France, 2011, 91 min., color English and French with English subtitles Marion and Mingus live cozily—perhaps too cozily—with their cat and two young children from previous relationships. However, when Marion’s jolly father (played by director Delpy’s real-life dad), her oversexed sister, and her sister’s outrageous boyfriend unceremoniously descend upon them for a visit, it initiates two unforgettable days that will test Marion and Mingus’s relationship. With their unwitting racism and sexual frankness, the French triumvirate hilariously has no boundaries or filters . and no person is left unscathed in its wake. Directed and cowritten by Julie Delpy, 2 Days in New York is a deliciously PRESENTED by Entertainment Weekly witty romp. One of the pleasures of this follow-up film to 2 Days in Paris is the addition of Chris Rock, who—amid the Gallic mayhem—convincingly plays the straight man as Marion’s hipster American boyfriend. With great skill and energy, Delpy heightens cultural differences to comedic extremes but also manages to show that sometimes change is the best solution to a relationship that’s been pushed to its limit.—K.Y.
