When he was 5 years old, his mother passed away; his father died six months later, leaving Marion, along with his older brother James and younger brother Leon without parents. They spent a brief period at the nearby Leath Orphan Home. This move was precipitated by Howard just prior to his death, who could see that his health was failing fast, and wanted to make sure that his sons had a place to stay. The boys stayed in the home until 1913, when they came under the care of their aunt Kate. While attending school, Marion held a number of odd jobs beginning in 1914, earning 5 cents a day picking cotton after school. Later years saw him acquire employment in and around Memphis as a cotton picker and office boy, as well as positions with the William R. -

This highway, which “runs from Chicago to L.A.,” has been singled out in the popular imagination as an icon representing American road culture and as a symbol of the freedom afforded by the automobile. In response to this high degree of public interest, in 1999 an act of Congress resulted in the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, administered by the National Park Service. Among other activities, the program provides grants to the affected states for the identification and prioritization of Route 66 related resources. In 2010, the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office was awarded such a grant, intended to fund a comprehensive survey of potential Route 66 resources in Arizona, from the California state line to the New Mexico state line. Motley Design Group, teamed with SWCA Environmental Consultants, was retained to perform the survey. The bulk of the field survey was completed in four trips occurring between April, 2011 and August, 2011. This report is a summary of the team’s findings. THE HAYNER PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT OPERATIONS POLICY CIRCULATION POLICIES CHECKOUT PERIODS FOR MATERIALS BY FORMAT The initial checkout period for all Hayner Library materials (except DVDs and software) is two weeks. The initial checkout period for all Hayner Library DVDs and software is one week. Items checked out via Interlibrary Loan are subject to the loan periods of the owning library. CHECKOUT LIMITS FOR MATERIALS BY FORMAT Books: No limit; do not take everything we have on one subject Audiocassettes/Audio CDs/Music CDs: Any combination of 10 per card Videocassettes/DVDs: Any combination of 5 per card Magazines: 5 issues per card Software on Compact Disc (CD-ROM), Leap Pad cartridges, puppets, kits, games, etc.: 5 per card REGULAR RENEWALS The regular loan period for all Hayner Library materials is two weeks (except DVDs and software). All Hayner Library items (except DVDs and software) may be renewed at the borrower’s request as long as there are no outstanding holds on the items. The renewal period is two weeks. The same item cannot be charged to the same borrower more than three times in a row—i.e., a maximum of three consecutive charges, or a total of six weeks. In other words, the same borrower cannot renew the item more than twice. Hayner Library DVDs and software may be checked out for one week. Hayner Library DVDs and software may be renewed one time. After returning these items, they must sit on the shelf for twenty-four hours before they can be checked out again. Items checked out via Interlibrary Loan are subject to the renewal periods (if any) of the owning library. -

I Research Text New Hotels in Berlin The Number of Hotels in Berlin Continues to Rise Berlin, September 2017 Berlin has one of the most modern hotel landscapes in Europe. From the luxury segment to the low-budget end, visitors to Berlin can currently choose from more than 140,000 beds in 781 establishments. In 2017, new large hotels are springing up at Alexanderplatz and in the City West. More than 1,800 rooms are being built there. Hotel Openings in 2017: Developments in Mitte and City West Hotel Provocateur on Brandenburgische Straße in Wilmersdorf opened in March. With its 59 rooms, it focuses on elegant design in black and red. The foyer and bar are adorned with impressive chandeliers. Micky Rosen and Alex Urseanu, Frankfurt hoteliers and initiators of the project, are promising a burlesque-sensual, urban design hotel. Its appeal is further enhanced by an Indochinese-French restaurant. www.provocateur-hotel.com The world’s largest hotel in the Hampton by Hilton chain, the Berlin City Centre Alexanderplatz, opened on the corner of Otto-Braun-Straße and Mollstraße mid-May. It offers 344 rooms with a modern design over nine floors. TEXTINATION NEWSLINE 8-28-2018 STRONG INVESTMENT IN NEW HOTELS IN JAPAN HUNDREDS OF NEW PROJECTS PLANNED, ESPECIALLY UNTIL 2020 Tokyo (GTAI) - More and more tourists are visiting Japan. The de- mand for accommodation is increasing accordingly, as is investment in hotel capacities. A number of industries is benefitting from this. Japan has become a tourist magnet. Arrivals of foreign visitors have been increasing for several years. Tokyo will also attract many curi- ous visitors as the venue for the Summer Olympics 2020. The Land of the Rising Sun is preparing for this. Investments in new accommo- dations have exploded and existing hotels are being modernized. According to the trade magazine "HOTERES", which regularly reports on the development of the hotel and catering industry, up to 750 new hotels of various categories will be built between 2018 and 2022 according to currently known plans. This should increase the number of rooms by 109,000 units. This includes 600 hotels and more than 90,000 rooms until the Olympic Games 2020. The Capital needs many new hotel rooms Tokyo is certainly a focal point, but a number of hotels are also being built in Osaka and Kyoto. The three largest cities of the country form the so-called "golden route" of the tourist flow. They are also important economic centers where business people need accommodation. The top ten leading groups cumulated a total inventory of approximately 770,000 rooms under the management, franchise and/or lease models, as at the third quarter of 2011. Among the top ten, there is a good balance of hotel groups which originated from Asia Pacific and those from outside the region. Out of the five hotel groups originating from Asia Pacific, Home Inns, Jin Jiang Hotels, 7 Days Inn and China Lodging Group have China as their primary market while Toyoko Inn focuses its operations primarily in Japan. The other brand leaders, IHG, Accor, Starwood, Wyndham and Marriott, have their presence more widely spread across the regional countries.
