6 SPEAKER’S STATEMENT—MILLICENT PRESTON-STANLEY

The Speaker made a statement in relation to the 90th anniversary of the inaugural speech of Millicent Preston-Stanley, the first female member of the Legislative Assembly.

12 NOTICES OF MOTIONS SOUGHT TO BE ACCORDED PRIORITY

(1) Mr Kevin Conolly made a statement in support of his notice being accorded priority over the other business of the House.

(2) Mr Ryan Park also made a statement in support of his notice being accorded priority—

That this House:

(1) Notes that this week BlueScope Steel outlined at least 500 jobs would need to be slashed to keep the steel works open in the Illawarra.

(2) Notes recent independent reports indicating that thousands of associated jobs across the region could be lost if the plant was to close or substantially decrease production.

(3) Calls on the Government to hold an urgent regional steel summit to develop an assistance package to ensure these important jobs in the Illawarra are protected.

(1) Notes that residential housing approvals are at their highest rate in 20 years.

(2) Supports the Government’s approach which is:

(a) Boosting housing supply and placing downward pressure on the cost of new homes; (b) Supporting the creating of local jobs; and (c) Growing the New South Wales economy.
