“They saved my life,” 2 | 3 states Rebekah. Rebekah Winsor, Age 7 2013-2014 CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK CHAMPION presented by

Each year, Children’s Miracle Network honours remarkable children from Canada and the who have triumphed despite severe medical challenges.

Rebekah Winsor was selected as the Janeway’s 2013-2014 Children’s Miracle Network Champion, presented by Walmart Canada. Her battle started with a simple headache. When the pain and duration increased, Rebekah’s parents knew there was something terribly wrong. Tests at a local hospital were inconclusive, and she was air-lifted immediately to the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre.

Here, her parents’ greatest fear was confirmed: Rebekah was experiencing a spontaneous brain bleed.

Specialists and surgeons took 5-year-old Rebekah into their care for emergency brain surgery. Post-surgery and in critical condition, Rebekah was kept in an induced coma to help her stabilize. It took more than a week for health care professionals to slowly wake her. Once awake, she had to relearn how to do everything: how to walk, dress herself, and even how to swallow. The team at the Janeway was committed to providing excellence in care, resources, and treatment necessary to result in a full recovery. Rebekah beat the odds and is now happy to be singing and playing soccer again.
