Adjunct Professor. Hempstead, NY. January 2019 - Present Time. • Created and taught a three credit course “Theatre Styles and Forms of Drama” using TV struc- tures as counter points to structure, rhythm and tradition in plays. Students investigate the for- mal patterns of naturalism, realism, melodrama, tragedy, absurdism, farce, satire, and comedy. • Created and taught a new three credit course “Self-Scripting: Making new work” for seniors in the BFA program. Taught it focusing hybrid performance techniques, collaboration with music and movement, and further cross over between theater and other artistic disciplines. • Directed fall student production (immersive production of Fefu and Her Friends by Maria Irene Fornes) in collaboration with student actors, student designers and student stage managers. September 2016 - Present Time. • Directed NYU & Conservatory undergraduates in their presentations at Atlantic Stage 2, includ- ing full productions, one acts, monologues, and public performances and scene-work. • Prepared and inspired students in 101 acting courses based on basic Stanislavski principles as well as the Practical Aesthetics technique. • Taught students movement, devising and free writing as part of the Staging Success program, where I am responsible for monologue coaching, scene coaching, creating movement pieces, as well as testing, grading and counseling sessions with students who have not been previously exposed to arts education. • Adapted the current Staging Success curriculum to better serve ESOL / ESL learners and recent immigrant students. Translated texts to fit bilingual and multilingual classroom settings. • Created opportunities in the classroom for students to engage in a variety of practical exercises towards expanding the potential of their voices, bodies and imagination. As a result of this stu- dent oriented process, literacy and engagement with ELA & Humanities curriculum rose by 50%. • Developed devised performances around classical and contemporary texts: Antigone, Fences, Skelton Crew, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Othello. I then directed these large high school pro- ductions with casts ranging between 120 a 280 student-performers. • Collaborating with Public School staff at at Phillip A. Randolph High School & Park Slope Colle- giate, I co-created a nine week residency curriculum focused on students with disabilities to in- crease vocal and physical participation. August 2018 From Page to Stage: Intensive three day workshop for performing arts professionals and writers of all disciplines to introduce the written word as a vehicle for performance. Integrating Viewpoints, as well as essential theatrical collaboration techniques, the group covered the creation of seminal text, its process of becoming communal, embodied, staged and performed. Participants take the first steps in creating monologues and dialogue, focusing in action, physical action, conflict, event and dramatic structure. This workshop moves from individual written exercises to opportuni- ties to stage written text, explore gestural and character development and ensemble driven prac- tices. John F. April 2017 Storytelling and Oral History: Exploration of storytelling through activities designed to allow stu- dents to reflect, create new works, and process their stories critically. The workshop is focused on community engagement and intergenerational sharing processes. Students document family histo- ries, adapt narrative to performance, and engage with their community, expanding the possibilities for writers, oral storytellers and listeners. July 2018 Actor-Writer-Director Collaboration: This practical (on your feet) workshop was designed for expe- rienced actors, writers, and directors will help to frame, reflect upon, and guide your craft.
