RAIDER REVIEW: The Raiders (13-17-6-2) take on the Kootenay ICE (18-19-3-0) THROUGH 38 GAMES for the first time this season at the Art Hauser Centre, kicking off a three-in- 2017-18 13-17-6-2, 34 PTS three weekend. In their last game, the Raiders were topped 5-4 in overtime by 2016-17 8-28-1-1, 18 PTS the Regina Pats on New Year’s Day at the Brandt Centre. Brayden Pachal, Cole LEADERS GOALS J. Stallard (26) Fonstad, and Parker Kelly all scored in the second period to put the Raiders up ASSISTS C. Fonstad (32) 3-1. After Regina took the lead in the third, Jordy Stallard tied the game to POINTS J. Stallard (49) send it to overtime, where the Pats ultimately prevailed. Curtis Meger made 34 saves in a losing effort for the Raiders.

VS. KOOTENAY: This is the third meeting between the Raiders and the ICE this season. The Raiders have earned three of a possible four points against the ICE so far.

HOME COOKING: The Raiders have liked when Kootenay has visited the Art Hauser Centre during the past four seasons. The Raiders have won seven of the last eight meetings between the two clubs in Prince Albert, including wins by scores of 6-0 and 8-0 last season.

ROSTER NEWS: The Raiders made two trades with the Victoria Royals this week, acquiring overage winger Regan Nagy and ’99-born defenceman Jeremy Masella from the Victoria Royals in exchange for D-Jay Jerome, unsigned prospect Hunter Strand and three draft picks. Nagy had 18 goals and six assists in 26 games; Masella had three goals and four assists in 35 games.

POWERED UP: Jordy Stallard continues to be one of the top power-play performers in the WHL. The overager from Brandon recorded his 12th goal with the man advantage on Monday night in Regina, putting him in a tie for third overall in the league with Stelio Mattheos. He trails only division rivals Jayden Halbgewachs (14) and Glenn Gawdin (13).

TRIO TRIVIA: Despite scoring 54 of the Raiders’ 115 goals this season, the trio of Cole Fonstad, Parker Kelly, and Jordy Stallard have only all scored in the same game twice. Prior to Monday, the other instance came on Oct. 7.

ICE PREVIEW: The Kootenay ICE visit the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday, January 5, 2018 – the first time this season the ICE will visit P.A. This will be the third meeting of the season between the two teams.

The ICE enter Friday’s win with three-straight losses – the latest was a 5-3 defeat to the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday, January 3. In that game, the ICE got goals from Alec Baer, Cam Hausinger and Brad Ginnell.

VS PRINCE ALBERT THIS SEASON: The Kootenay ICE are 1-1-0-0 against Prince Albert this season.

2017-18 SERIES RECAP Nov 10/17 vs PA.: PA 5 KTN 3… Justin Nachbaur had three points (1G, 2A) and received first star. Nov 29/17 vs PA: KTN 4 PA 3 overtime… Alec Baer scored the game winner at the 38-second mark of overtime.

OPPOSITION PREVIEW: The Prince Albert Raiders host the Kootenay ICE on Friday, January 5, 2018. The Raiders are well-rested heading into the game, not having played since New Year’s Day.

The Raiders are in the middle of a stretch where they play nine of 12 games on home ice. The Raiders enter Friday’s game on a five- game losing streak, with the latest coming against the Regina Pats by a score of 5-4 in overtime.

KREBS NAMED WHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH: ICE ’01-born forward Peyton Krebs was named the WHL Rookie of the Month on January 3. In 10 games during that month, Krebs collected 12 points (4G, 8A). Krebs leads all WHL rookies in points with 33. The Okotoks, Alberta native also has 20 points (6G, 14A) in 20 games since returning from the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in the middle of November.

GINNELL SCORES FIRST GOAL AS MEMBER OF ICE: 2000-born forward Bradley Ginnell scored his first goal as a member of the ICE against the Swift Current Broncos on January 3. On December 27, Ginnell was acquired by the organization and made his ICE debut the next night in Calgary.

BODAK AT WORLD JUNIORS: 1998-born defenceman Martin Bodak had a strong showing at the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship. Bodak finished the tournament with three goals – two of those coming in the Quarter-Finals in a 3-2 loss to Sweden. Bodak was also named Slovakia’s Player of the Game twice. Before the tournament started, Bodak was named team captain.

SEVEN-STRAIGHT VS CENTRAL DIVISION: The ICE are coming off seven-straight games against the Central Division – four against Calgary, one against Medicine Hat, one against Edmonton and one against Lethbridge. Wednesday’s game against Swift Current was the first time since December 9 the ICE didn’t play a team in their own division.

HOLDEN KODAK PLAYS FIRST WHL GAME: ICE ’01-born forward prospect Holden Kodak made his WHL debut against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on December 2. The ICE recalled Kodak on New Year’s Day. The Cloverdale, BC native was listed by the team in October, 2017 and signed with the organization in December. Kodak has played 26 games for the Yale Hockey Academy Midget Prep of the CSSHL this season. Kodak leads all midget prep players in goals with 36 and points with 60.

JAKIN SMALLWOOD PLAYS FOR ICE: ICE ’01-born forward prospect Jakin Smallwood made his ICE debut on December 30 against the Edmonton Oil Kings. The game was played just minutes from Smallwood’s hometown of Leduc, Alberta. The ICE acquired Smallwood in a trade with Moose Jaw on December 11. Smallwood was recalled by the ICE on December 29 and reassigned to the Leduc Oil Kings Midget AAA of the AMHL on December 31.

EXTRA TIME NEEDED: Five of the last nine games the ICE have played have gone into overtime. The ICE are 3-2 in those five overtime sessions.

CLOSE GAMES: Six of the last nine games the ICE have played have been decided by one goal. The ICE are 4-2 in those six games.

ICE STREAKS: ’99-born forward Cameron Hausinger (7G, 4A) has points in eight of his last nine games. ’99-born forward Brett Davis (2G, 7A) has points in six of his last seven games. ’97-born forward Alec Baer (5G, 4A) has points in six of his last seven games. ’97-born forward Colton Kroeker (2G, 2A) has points in three of his last four games.
