Description: On the National Register of Historic Places, the Thomas Sappington House in Crestwood is tucked away in a 2.5-acre park and features lush lawns, a small lake, and a fountain. A rare example of Federal architecture in Missouri, the structure, fower, and herb gardens appear as they did nearly 200 years ago. Built by slaves, it is thought to be the oldest brick home in St. Louis County. Embodying the spirit of hospitality, the for-proft Barn Restaurant is a neighborhood gathering place. The Loft Gift Shop, chosen by Riverfront Times readers as the Best Gift Shop in St. Louis in 2015, offers American rustic chic wares and garden gifts. Whether for serious study or casual browsing, rest and refect at the Library of Americana and Decorative Arts. Nearby, Grant’s Trail and Father Dickson Cemetery for African Americans, founded in 1903, round out a charming getaway to Sappington House.
