(Jones 1975) The black women's critique of history has not only involved us in coming to terms with "absences"; we have also been outraged by the ways in which it has made us visible, when it has chosen to see us. History has constructed our sexuality and our femininity as deviating from those qualities with which white women, as the prize objects of the Western world, have been endowed. We have also been defined in less than human terms (Jordon 1969). Our continuing struggle with History began with its "discovery" of us. However, this chapter will be concerned with herstory rather than history. We wish to address questions to the feminist theories that have been developed during the last decade; a decade in which black women have been fighting, in the streets, in the schools, through the courts, inside and outside the wage relation. The significance of these struggles ought to inform the writing of the herstory of women in Britain. It is fundamental to the development of a feminist theory and practice that is meaningful for black women. -

Ensor SAC Department Eastern Michigan University Ypsilanti, MI 48197 USA Email: [email protected] Abstract: Kin terminology research—as reflected in Crow-Omaha and Dziebel (2021)—has long been interested in “deep time” evolution. In this commentary, I point out serious issues in neoev- olutionist models and phylogenetic models assumed in Crow-Omaha and Dziebel’s arguments. I summarize the widely-shared objections (in case Kin term scholars have not previously paid atten- tion) and how those apply to Kin terminology. Trautmann (2012:48) expresses a hope that Kinship analysis will Join with archaeology (and primatology). Dziebel misinterprets archaeology as lin- guistics and population genetics. Although neither Crow-Omaha nor Dziebel (2021) make use of archaeology, biological anthropology, or paleogenetics, I include a brief overview of recent ap- proaches to prehistoric Kinship in those fields—some of which consider Crow-Omaha—to point out how these fields’ interpretations are independent of ethnological evolutionary models, how their data should not be used, and what those areas do need from experts on kinship. Introduction I was delighted by the invitation to contribute to the debate initiated by Dziebel (2021) on Crow- Omaha: New Light on a Classic Problem of Kinship Analysis (Trautmann and Whiteley 2012a). -

sustainability Article Making the Invisible Visible: Eco-Art and Design against the Anthropocene Carmela Cucuzzella Design and Computation Arts, Concordia University, Montreal, QC H3G 1M8, Canada; [email protected] Abstract: This paper examines a series of art and design installations in the public realm that aim to raise awareness or activate change regarding pressing ecological issues. Such works tend to place environmental responsibility on the shoulders of the individual citizen, aiming to educate but also to implicate them in the age of the Anthropocene. How and what these works aim to accomplish, are key to a better understanding the means of knowledge transfer and potential agents of change in the Anthropocene. We study three cases in this paper. These are examined through: (1) their potential to raise awareness or activate behavior change; (2) how well they are capable of making the catastrophic situations, which are invisible to most people, visible; and (3) how well they enable systemic change in the catastrophic situations. In the three cases studied, we find that they are successful in helping to raise awareness and even change individual behavior, they are successful in rendering the invisible visible, but they are incapable of engendering any systemic change of the catastrophic situations depicted. TRACES OF HERSTORY: REINVENTING WOMANHOOD IN THE KATE FANSLER MYSTERY SERIES BY AMANDA CROSS Emma Domínguez-Rué Universitat de Lleida [email protected] Although the American writer and Columbia professor Carolyn Gold Heilbrun (1926-2003) is best known for her best-selling mystery novels, published under the pseudonym of Amanda Cross, she also authored remarkable pieces of non-fiction in which she asserted her long-standing commitment to feminism. Taking Heilbrun’s essays in feminism and literary criticism as a basis and her 1990 novel The Players Come Again as substantiation to my argument, this paper will illustrate the ways in which her detective novels became an instrument to reach a mass audience of female readers who might not have read her theoretical work, but who were perhaps finding it difficult to reach fulfillment as women under patriarchy. My aim is to reveal the extent to which Heilbrun’s seemingly more superficial and much more commercial novels were used a catalyst that informed her feminist principles while vindicating the need to repair women’s historical invisibility. “HerStory” Challenging Gender Stereotypes in Israeli Girls’ Perfect Love Stories Shiri Reznik This study explores the love stories written by 77 Israeli girls, aged 11-12 years old, in order to examine the possible influence of the media on their romantic narratives and the gender roles embedded within them. The girls were asked to write their own perfect love story and then participated in focus groups during which they explained the stories they wrote. The stories have been analyzed with the method of discourse analysis. Although many girls chose to express their imaginary romantic world by using popular media characters, plot lines and idioms, others offered a new and even revolutionary perspective on what a perfect love story can be, and especially the gender roles it can depict. Stories about female protagonists who make the first romantic move, perform sisterhood as an act of resistance, or prefer to be an assertive non-stereotypical princess, are analyzed in light of the girls’ socioeconomic backgrounds and role models. If you had to imagine the perfect love story what would it be? This study aims to find out how tween Israeli girls perceive the concept of romantic love, what are their expectations regarding gender roles in the romantic sphere, and how do they imagine an ideal love story when given the opportunity to write their own romantic narrative. Another goal of the current study is to examine the possible influence of the media on girls’ romantic perceptions and dreams, since numerous studies have found that mediated representations of love are meaningful sources of identification, social learn- ing, and internalization of romantic narratives and behaviors among children, teens and adults as well (Bachen & Illouz, 1996; Hefner & Wilson, 2013). -

This information may be used as a tool for all people, women in particular, who wish to dismantle the oppressions they face externally, and within their own lives. We are two men and one woman attempting to grasp at how we can deconstruct the patriarchal foundations upon which we perceive an unjust society has been built. We hope that at least some component of this work will be found useful to a variety of readers. This Zine is meant to be an introduction into anarcha-feminism, its origins, applications, and potentials. Buen provecho! We acknowledge that anarcha-feminism has historically been a western theory; thus, unfortunately, much of this ziners content reflects this limitation. However, we have included some information and analysis on worldwide anarcha-feminists as well as global women's struggles which don't necessarily identify as anarchist. -

Profile Team Name : Baguette - The French Magic Touch Campaign name anotherstory Campaign background anotherstory is a campaign that aims to open the eyes of European citizens on women's rights history and to involve them while they feel little concerned by the cause. The strategy adopted is the "wrapping technique". The principle is to embody the history of women's rights and the cause in a package that looks like what our targets want or at least that does not look like the idea they most have of feminism. This campaign meets current wishes expressed by citizens (Ipsos Trends, 2016): - The positive. Citizens are asking for positive inspirations and they increasingly reject news and subjects causing anxiety. - The personal bubble. Individuals are looking for establish a deeper relationship with themselves by learning more about the history of their family for instance. Therefore, we are convinced that to engage citizens, they need to be positively connected to women's history through their personal story. So we ask ourselves what event concerns us individually, also unifying and most of the time positive? The birthday! The birth date is the central point of the campaign where citizens will understand that since that date, the history of women's rights became their history too and consequently they have to involve themselves for this cause. A website entitled "anotherstory.eu" is at the heart of our campaign. It uses a positive and personal tonality to talk about equality between men and women and it constitutes a new opportunity to discover another story of your birth date. -
