Hi Natural Selection St Mary's psychology department has sent out questionnaires to all applicants for St Mary's Hospital Medical School and four other medical schools in the country. Press reports, originating from a recent article in the Times Educational Supplement, implied that the completion of the questionnaire was in some way linked to the success of an application. Chris McManus, head of the research group which produced the questionnaires, dismissed the allegations, stating that completion of the questionnaire was entirely voluntary. He added that the only applications received by medical schools were UCCA forms and that the list of applicants were merely used to target the mailshot. No information passed between the medical school's application department and his research group, he said. Concerning privacy, Mr McManus said that information gathered from the questionnaire is entirely secure. The data resides on a computer that is not networked, and is separated from the medical school. The questionnaire is part of an ongoing project to determine the attributes of a successful applicant, what makes a successful doctor and whether particular types of people choose particular career paths. The first questionnaire, sent out ten years ago, was followed by further information gathering, including final results and careers after medical school. • Hesiod Theogony.Pdf
Hesiod (8th or 7th c. BC, composed in Greek) The Homeric epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey, are probably slightly earlier than Hesiod’s two surviving poems, the Works and Days and the Theogony. Yet in many ways Hesiod is the more important author for the study of Greek mythology. While Homer treats cer- tain aspects of the saga of the Trojan War, he makes no attempt at treating myth more generally. He often includes short digressions and tantalizes us with hints of a broader tra- dition, but much of this remains obscure. Hesiod, by contrast, sought in his Theogony to give a connected account of the creation of the universe. For the study of myth he is im- portant precisely because his is the oldest surviving attempt to treat systematically the mythical tradition from the first gods down to the great heroes. Also unlike the legendary Homer, Hesiod is for us an historical figure and a real per- sonality. His Works and Days contains a great deal of autobiographical information, in- cluding his birthplace (Ascra in Boiotia), where his father had come from (Cyme in Asia Minor), and the name of his brother (Perses), with whom he had a dispute that was the inspiration for composing the Works and Days. His exact date cannot be determined with precision, but there is general agreement that he lived in the 8th century or perhaps the early 7th century BC. His life, therefore, was approximately contemporaneous with the beginning of alphabetic writing in the Greek world. Although we do not know whether Hesiod himself employed this new invention in composing his poems, we can be certain that it was soon used to record and pass them on.

  • 1 Rubaiyat Khan 21H.301 Hesiod's Moral Teachings on Living In
1 Rubaiyat Khan 21H.301 Hesiod’s Moral Teachings on Living In Hesiod’s poem “Works and Days”, he explains to his brother how to live a good life. He describes both moral and practical ways of leading life. However, his emphasis lies on the moral teachings rather than the practical ones. One of the overarching themes of his work is the importance of being just in life. Hesiod believes that Zeus and the other almighty immortal Gods punish immoral men and reward moral ones. Therefore, men must not be unjust or unkind to one another. Some of his teachings are clearly moral For example, he mentions the importance of treating one’s parents well multiple times in the poem. Hesiod’s obsession with justice and morality can be inferred from this importance that he places on taking care of ones parents. To him, being disrespectful to ones aging parents is unjust and unfair because parents take care of their children when the children are young and unable to take care of themselves. Thus it is only fair and just to the parents that the children take care of them when they are too old to fend for themselves. Hesiod believes that it is not only justice that Zeus asks of people. He describes other criminal acts that he believes will make Zeus angry. He mentions wickedness, violence, seizing someone else’s property, being ungracious to a guest, adultery and cheating orphans as examples of other crimes that warrant Zeus’ wrath. “But for those who occupy themselves with violence and wickedness and brutal deeds, Kronos’ son, wide-seeing Zeus, marks out retribution.

Mrs. Allen’s 2016-2017 5th Grade Writers Expository Essay Writing If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why? The Shapeshifter S.A. By Karleigh Adair Shapeshifting would be my superpower. Some of my favorite heroes have that superpower. Some of the reasons I want this power is that you can shapeshift into anything, you can change into a person with other superpowers, and you can prank people. Though, you also might have lots of weaknesses that people can exploit. Super Speed By: Sarah Alhashimi If I were to have a superhuman skill, it would be su per speed. It would be pretty cool. This amazing power would help me quickly finish my chores. I no longer will ever feel the panic of being in a hurry. The horrific timeconsuming shopping experience with my mom will never happen because I can help her in a flash. These are the reasons why super speed is the one super I would choose if I had the choice. Playing with my little brother, watching YouTube, and eating food are my favorite pastimes that I would have more time for if I had the ability to use my super speed to finish chores. Every kid that I know must do chores! Dishes. Vacuuming. Dusting. Ewwwww! Cleaning the nasty, smelly, poopy disgusting bathroom. No longer will my nose or eyes, even hands, ever have to succumb to the horrid experience of having to do these chores. When my mom tells me I’ve got chores to finish, I can absolutely use my super speed to make my bed, clean my room, mop the floor, clean the kitchen, and straighten out the living room at the speed of light.
