Wielowątkowość jest postrzegana jako trudne zadanie do wdrożenia i nie jest w pełni rozwinięta. Programiści często unikają jej, ponieważ do prawidłowego wdrożenia wymaga wiele pracy. Według mnie wynikający z tego wzrost wydajności jest warty tych kosztów. Ponieważ nie ma wielu silników gier, które w pełni wykorzystują wielowątkowość, celem tej pracy jest zaprojektowanie i zaproponowanie wielowątkowej architektury silnika gry 3D, a także przedstawienie głównych systemów używanych do stworzenia takiego silnika gry 3D. Praca skupia się na technologii i architekturze silnika gry i jego podsystemach wraz ze strukturami danych i algorytmami wykorzystywanymi do ich stworzenia. -

Please contact author, [email protected], for permission.> Abstract: Machinima is the making of animated movies in real time through the use of computer game technology. The projects that launched machinima embedded gameplay in practices of performance, spectatorship, subversion, modification, and community. This article is concerned primarily with the earliest machinima projects. In this phase, DOOM and especially Quake movie makers created practices of game performance and high-performance technology that yielded a new medium for linear storytelling and artistic expression. My aim is not to answer the question, “are games art?”, but to suggest that game-based performance practices will influence work in artistic and narrative media. Biography: Henry Lowood is Curator for History of Science & Technology Collections at Stanford University and co-Principal Investigator for the How They Got Game Project in the Stanford Humanities Laboratory. A historian of science and technology, he teaches Stanford’s annual course on the history of computer game design. With the collaboration of the Internet Archive and the Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences, he is currently working on a project to develop The Machinima Archive, a permanent repository to document the history of Machinima moviemaking. A body of research on the social and cultural impacts of interactive entertainment is gradually replacing the dismissal of computer games and videogames as mindless amusement for young boys. There are many good reasons for taking computer games1 seriously. -

ABSTRACT LOHMEYER, EDWIN LLOYD. Unstable Aesthetics: The Game Engine and Art Modifications (Under the direction of Dr. Andrew Johnston). This dissertation examines episodes in the history of video game modding between 1995 and 2010, situated around the introduction of the game engine as a software framework for developing three-dimensional gamespaces. These modifications made to existing software and hardware were an aesthetic practice used by programmers and artists to explore the relationship between abstraction, the materiality of game systems, and our phenomenal engagement with digital media. The contemporary artists that I highlight—JODI, Cory Arcangel, Orhan Kipcak, Julian Oliver, and Tom Betts—gravitated toward modding because it allowed them to unveil the technical processes of the engine underneath layers of the game’s familiar interface, in turn, recalibrating conventional play into sensual experiences of difference, uncertainty, and the new. From an engagement with abstract forms, they employed modding techniques to articulate new modes of aesthetic participation through an affective encounter with altered game systems. Furthermore, they used abstraction, the very strangeness of the mod’s formal elements, to reveal our habitual interactions with video games by destabilizing conventional gamespaces through sensory modalities of apperception and proprioception. In considering the imbrication of technics and aesthetics in game engines, this work aims to resituate modding practices within a dynamic and more inclusive understanding -

Many of them arise because people don’t know as much as they should about how things "work" on Linux, at least, as far as games go. Gaming can be a tough pursuit; it requires knowledge from an incredibly vast range of topics from compilers to libraries to system administration to networking to XFree86 administration ... you get the picture. Every aspect of your computer plays a role in gaming. It’s a demanding topic, but this fact is shadowed by the primary goal of gaming: to have fun and blow off some steam. This document is a stepping stone to get the most common problems resolved and to give people the knowledge to begin thinking intelligently about what is going on with their games. Just as with anything else on Linux, you need to know a little more about what’s going on behind the scenes with your system to be able to keep your games healthy or to diagnose and fix them when they’re not. 1. Chapter 18 Magazines and Newsletters 18.1 ... The Beginning Publication of personal computing articles was initially in electronic magazines such as Popular Electronics, QST and Radio-Electronics. Then came the magazines and newsletters devoted to personal computing and microcomputers. Most of these initial publications were not specific to a particular microprocessor or type of microcomputer. The following are some of the more significant publications. The first publication devoted to personal computing was the Amateur Computer Society ACS Newsletter. The editor was Stephen B. Gray who was also the founder of ACS. The first issue was published in August 1966 and the last in December 1976. It was a bi- monthly directed at anyone interested in building and operating a personal computer. The newsletter was a significant source of information on the design and construction of a computer during the time period it was published. The PCC Newsletter was published by Robert L. Albrecht of the People's Computer Company in California. The first issue was published in October 1972. The first issue cover stated it “is a newspaper... about having fun with computers, learning how to use computers, how to buy a minicomputer for yourself your school and books films and tools of the future.” The newspaper name changed to the People’s Computers with a magazine type of format in May-June 1977. Hal Singer started the Micro-8 Newsletter in September 1974. This was a newsletter published by the Micro-8 Computer Users Group, originally the Mark-8 Group for Mark-8 computer users. Another publication started in 1974, was The Computer Hobbyist newsletter. -

I have divided that lengthy narration into what I consider the eight most defining moments that shaped the current industry. Let's time warp ourselves to those moments and take a look at how things were done back then. This way the reasons behind today's practices will become obvious. I will avoid the trivial and focus on programming practices. Because raw data is useless without perspective, it's also important to provide some context in which to interpret the data and to understand how today's programming practices were developed. The amount of content required to populate the environments for Triple-A (AAA) video games doubles every few years to satisfy the expectations of the end-users. For this reason, the art and design discipline now constitute the maJority of those employed in a video game studio. The artists use Digital Content Creation (DCC) tools to design and create their content; tools not originally designed for video game asset creation. Ultimately the artists require to preview their content in the form of source assets in the runtime environment, the game engine, to ensure they provide an accurate rendering of their original vision. However, there exists a barrier to achieve this workflow; the original source assets are persisted in a proprietary format, information rich to handle future edits, and the final runtime environment requires the assets to be lightweight ready for fast and efficient loading into the game engine. The video game industry has solved this problem by introducing a fast and efficient workflow known as the asset pipeline. The asset pipeline is recognized within video games technology as a general reusable solution to the common problem of converting source assets into their final runtime form as expected by the runtime game engine. -
