Back in the 60’s when we were spreading the idea ”Peace, Love, and Understanding,” I couldn’t in my wildest dreams image that the beginning of the new millennium would be spent watching the world bomb itself to death. As I try to concentrate and compose my thoughts for this edition of the comings and goings within the global wine community, the Europe that I am a citizen of seems instabile at best. Here is an attempt: Susanne gets us started with a MASI tasting which might answer some ques- tions about why Italian wines are flying off the shelfs in Sweden right now. Ursula describes what happens when Chateau Palmer is put up against Alter Ego, and which wines were represented at Fine Wine Tasting 2015. Christopher Jarnvall reflects on which of these wines complement different types of game, and win- emaker Peter Gago comments on Penfolds release of the 2011’s. We visit Prunotto in Alba, investigate what South African Allesverloren is up to, and then allow Andreas Kjörling to toast Charles Heidsieck. The latest wine and spirits auction in Stockholm included a whiskey from the 1920’s, tapped in the 1960’s, which sold for almost double the asking price. Global interest in the Stockholm auctions keeps growing. Read more about what is happening at the large international auction firms in WebAuction Special. Two of them (Scarlet runner Shiraz 2014 – price SEK 119, and Four o’clock HIGH AMBITIONS IN WINES chardonnay 2015 – price SEK 99) have already been launched FROM LaURENT DELAUNAY and are available from Systembolaget’s regular assortment. There was also the CU- MOLO NIMBUS Minervois 2012 and 2013, as well as ALTO STRATUS Vin de France Carignan 2011 and 2013. All of these wines are produced at high altitudes, and the ambition is to be elegant, with good acidity, purity and freshness – characteristics that became obvious to those of us who were present for the tasting. A prom- ising Pinot Noir was also presented, and we hope to sample it next year. All of the wines are available for pri- vate import. Imported by SIGVA. The name gives the appearance of a story about a warm year that surprised many people, with its fruitiness, freshness, balance expres- siveness, liveliness and elegance. Krug 2003 is an unparalleled blend of the year’s wines from several different vineyard locations. Joseph Krug’s pioneer spirit from 170 years ago, when he determined that champagne’s inner spirit is the basis for enjoyment, laid the foundation for Krug Vintage 2003. An entirely unique vintage with the expressive aromas of citrus, plumbs, liquid honey and brioche, as well as a unique taste with summer fruits, red grapefruit and candied fruit rinds, roasted chestnuts and caramelized apples, with a long aftertaste and stamina. The tasting was enjoyed at Grand Hotell together with Rich- ard Juhlin. A little bit later, Jessica Julmy, Krug’s Head of Busi- ness Development Europa, arrived as well. Krug Vintage 2003, 750 ml is available through Systembola- get (item #90645) for SEK 1 931 in a limited edition. The time has finally arrived for this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau release at Systembolaget. From a very large and competitive field of candidates, Systembolaget chose producer Pierre Dupond’s modern Beaujolais wine as this year’s representative for the annual tradi- tion with unaged wine. The wine was launched at Systembolaget on November 19th, and costs SEK 79. Count on limited availability, as last year’s Beaujolais wine was sold out in many boutiques after only a few hours. Karl Öjerskog, Managing Director at Espumante AB, is the Swedish im- porter for Pierre Dupond’s wines. ”– It feels really great to be able to offer a somewhat different Beaujolais this year. Pierre Dupond’s wine has a modern profile, and another fun detail is that, despite its fruity, almost sweet character, it contains almost no residual sugar – only 0.5 g/l.” MOËT & CHANDON GRAND VINTAGE 2006 Marc Brevot, one of the winemakers behind MOËT & CHANDON Grand Vintage, was on hand at Operabaren in Stockholm over lunch, to de- scribe how he thinks a glass of Grand Vintag 2006 should taste. ” – The freedom to enjoy an unforgettable moment, just like we’re doing here today, is the most important ingredient. It is easy to recognize the fresh and unmistakable taste of MOÊT, where three important factors are in play: freedom of interpretation, selection of a particular year’s finest grapes, and regard for individuality.” Grand Vintage is aged for seven years in the House’s cellars in Epernay.
