We accept that wind energy has a role and that the countryside has always changed and will always change but we argue that the environmental and social cost of the development of commercial wind energy is quite out of proportion to any benefit in the form of reduced emissions.

In presenting this New Edition we wish to point out to our clients that our entire collection of Negatives has been re-arranged and we have removed from the Catalogue such slides as appeared to be redundant, and also those for which there is little demand. Several new Sections have been added, and, in many cases, old photographs have been replaced by better ones. STOCK SLIDES. Although we hold large stocks of plain slides it frequently happens during the busy Season that particular slides desired have to be made after receipt of the order. The new enlarged IBERDROLA Group ended 2007 as one of the worlds largest electricity companies by market capitalisation. Through the friendly integration, now successfully completed, we have reinforced our shared commitment to Corporate Responsibility. Our reporting year has been aligned to IBERDROLA so going forward we will be working on a calendar year basis. Achieving Scottish Business in the Community Large Company of the Year in 2007 was an important endorsement for ScottishPowers work and to our commitment to environmental and social issues. During 2007, we have announced significant investments in sustainable generation projects and environmental technologies; increased our 2010 target for delivery of wind energy projects in the UK to 1,200 MW and established partnerships that will help secure Scotlands place as the world leader in marine energy.     News Release 14 March 2012 Siemens awards multi-million tower contract to South Wales firm Fifteen towers destined for Mynydd y Betws wind farm project as Mabey Bridge is awarded first contract by the UK’s largest provider of wind turbines Siemens, the leading global engineering and technology company, has announced that it has placed an order with South Wales based Mabey Bridge to manufacture towers for 15, 2.3MW turbines bound for the Mynydd y Betws wind farm in Carmarthenshire. Siemens will supply, transport, install and commission the two-section 63-metre- high, 105 tonne towers for local developer, Cambrian Renewable Energy Limited (CREL), owned by the ESB, Ireland’s main electricity utility company. The wind turbines will have a tip height of 110 metres, and an installed capacity of up to 34.5MW. The project will generate electricity to power approximately 18,250 households, equivalent to almost a quarter of Carmarthenshire. More than two million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions will be saved over the lifetime of the project. The towers will be delivered in summer 2012 and the project is due for completion by February 2013. Originally developed by CREL, a Welsh consortium of Eco2 and local investors, Mynydd y Betws Wind Farm was acquired in June 2010 by ESB. ESB is committed to halving its carbon emissions by 2020 and achieving carbon net-zero emissions Page 1 of 3 by 2035. In addition to Mynydd y Betws, other projects include the Fullabrook Wind Farm in Devon and the West Durham Wind Farm. Commenting on the Mynydd y Betws Wind Farm project a spokesperson from ESB said: "ESB is committed to realising benefits for local communities by developing new green energy sources.

    Northeast England – A history of flash flooding Introduction The main outcome of this review is a description of the extent of flooding during the major flash floods that have occurred over the period from the mid seventeenth century mainly from intense rainfall (many major storms with high totals but prolonged rainfall or thaw of melting snow have been omitted). This is presented as a flood chronicle with a summary description of each event. Sources of Information Descriptive information is contained in newspaper reports, diaries and further back in time, from Quarter Sessions bridge accounts and ecclesiastical records. The initial source for this study has been from Land of Singing Waters –Rivers and Great floods of Northumbria by the author of this chronology. This is supplemented by material from a card index set up during the research for Land of Singing Waters but which was not used in the book. The information in this book has in turn been taken from a variety of sources including newspaper accounts. A further search through newspaper records has been carried out using the British Newspaper Archive. This is a searchable archive with respect to key words where all occurrences of these words can be viewed. The search can be restricted by newspaper, by county, by region or for the whole of the UK. The search can also be restricted by decade, year and month. The full newspaper archive for northeast England has been searched year by year for occurrences of the words ‘flood’ and ‘thunder’. It was considered that occurrences of these words would identify any floods which might result from heavy rainfall.
