BLUE JACKETS NOTES WESTERN END The beginning of the 2018-19 season for the Jackets was a schedule heavy in Western Conference opponents. Tuesday’s game vs. Dallas was the final game against West teams as the club played eight of its first 15 games against West opponents and closesdout a stretch of seven of nine, and four-straight, against the Western Conference from Oct. 20-Nov. 6. The script will be switched as the team will play eight of the next nine games against East opponents beginning with tonight’s game at 2018 Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals.

A FAMILIAR FOE The Blue Jackets will face the 2018 Stanley Cup Champions tonight for the first time since falling to them, 4-2, in the first round of the 2018 postseason. It was the second-straight season that Columbus fell to the eventual Stanley Cup Champions; they also fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Round 1 of the 2017 . The club qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time in club history (2017 and 2018). It was the fourth time in franchise history and third in the past five seasons that the franchise competed for the Stanley Cup in the postseason.

WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER After missing 10 games with an injury, Brandon Dubinsky picked up right where he left off and has points in back-to-back games for the second time this season (0-2-2). He has 1-3-4 in four of his five games this season. He’s also remained dominant in the faceoff circle, leading the club with a 60.3% faceoff win percentage (41-of-68).

ON A ROLL With an assist tonight, Boone Jenner can set a new career-long assist streak with four games. He is currently riding a three-game assist streak (3), which ties his career-long stretch (2x, MR: 11/2-11/6/17; 1-4-5). Jenner also tied his career high for shots on goal with seven on Tuesday against Dallas.

PROTECT THE HOUSE Defenseman Seth Jones has been a strong defensive force since returning from injury, compiling 17 blocked shots in his eight games so far this season, which is fourth-T on the club. He’s averaging 2.1 blocked shots per game which leads the team. Jones has also been strong offensively, and has 1-3-4 in his last four games, including points in back-to-back games for the first time this season (0-3- 3).

NOVEMBER BREAKDOWN The Blue Jackets will only play five of their 14 games this month at home at and will have three of their 16 sets of back-to-back contests in the month (Nov. 3-4, 9-10 and 23-24). The club went 0-1-1 in their most recent set of back-to-backs, losing to the Kings and falling the Anaheim in overtime this past weekend. They face eight clubs in the Eastern Conference and four against the Metro Division during the month.

ROAD TRIPPING After playing just four of their 11 games in October on the road, Columbus will be away from Nationwide Arena for nine of their 14 November contests. That included the club’s annual trip to kick off the month (1st-4th), where they finished 1-1-1. The club has picked up nine points in their first seven road contests (4-2-1), tied for the second-best record through the first seven road contests of a campaign in club history (2017-18). The club went 6-1-0 in its first seven road games in 2010-11.

AMONG THE LEAGUE’S BEST Columbus has been among the best teams in the NHL in picking up wins over the past few seasons. Dating back to the 2016-17 campaign, the Jackets are fourth-T in the league in wins (103, Pittsburgh), trailing only Washington (111) along with Tampa Bay (107) and Nashville (106).

ON THE FARM The AHL’s currently sit in second place in the North Division with a 7-5-1-0 record after falling 5-2 to the Wednesday night. Zac Dalpe is tied for the AHL lead in points and goals with 12-7-19 while Eric Robinson (5-6-11), Nathan Gerbe (2-9-11) and Paul Bittner (2-8-10) also lead the Monsters in scoring. Emil Bemstrom (4th round in 2017) is second-T in the SHL in goals (8-3-11 in 15 games for Djurgarden).
