TONIGHT’S GAME -The Penguins return home to host the Columbus Blue Jackets (TV: AT&T SportsNet; Radio: 105.9 The X) at PPG Paints Arena. -Last year the Pens swept the Jackets (4-0), the second time in the history of the series that the Penguins have done so (MIN: 4 GP). Pittsburgh went 5-0 against the Blue Jackets in 2013-14. -While the Pens swept, the games were much closer than that. Both wins in Pittsburgh came via the shootout, and the Pens’ 5-4 win on April 5 in Columbus came in . -The Penguins have won five-straight games against the Blue Jackets. A win tonight would allow the Pens to equal their longest winning streak against the Jackets (6 games; Feb. 26, 2012-Mar. 28, 2014). -The Pens are 6-0-1 against Columbus in the past seven meetings. That’s tied for Pittsburgh’s longest point streak against the Jackets (also 6-0-1 from Feb. 26, 2012-Dec. 13, 2014). -Here at PPG Paints Arena the Pens have won five-straight games against Columbus. -Head coach Mike Sullivan will be coaching his 240th game behind the Pens’ bench tonight. That will tie Bob Berry and Johnny Wilson for the fifth-most games coached in franchise history.

QUICK HITS

1) Tonight the Penguins conclude their first set of back-to-back games this year. Last year the Penguins skated in an NHL-high 19 sets of back to backs. The club went 20-14-4 overall (10-7-2 the first night; 10-7-2 the second night).

2) Last year the Pens went 6 for 12 (50%) on the power play against the Blue Jackets. Phil Kessel and Evgeni Malkin scored twice each, with Kris Letang and Patric Hornqvist adding one apiece.

3) Head coach Mike Sullivan is 8-1-1 against the Blue Jackets and his mentor, John Tortorella, since joining the Penguins. If you include the playoffs, that record improves to 12-2-1.

4) Since the Penguins gave up four power-play goals to the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 15, the Pens are 8 for 8 on the PK over the past four games. If you eliminate that game from the Pens’ totals, the team is 50 for 58 (86.2%) on the PK in their other 20 games.

5) The Penguins went the entire evening without being shorthanded last night in Boston, the second time this year that has happened. Pittsburgh also went a full game without being shorthanded on October 16 against Vancouver.

Three of those seven goals have been game-winners, including the winner overtime tally on April 5 of last season, a game that clinched home-ice advantage for the Pens in the opening round of the playoffs. Kessel also had the game-winner in head coach Mike Sullivan’s first-ever win on Dec. 21, 2015. *Patric Hornqvist has a four-game point streak (3G-3A-6PTS) against the Blue Jackets. *In 12 combined regular-season and playoff games against Columbus, Jake Guentzel has 13 points (8G-5A). Those include his first NHL hat trick, including the OT GWG, in Game 3 against Columbus in the 2017 First Round.

A long-time alternate for CBJ, Johnson added nine points (4G-5A) in 11 playoff contests.

The 15 points are also tied for second-most (2016-17 and 2017-18), trailing the 16 points recorded in that 2010-11 season (8-3-0).

GET SHORTY Columbus ranks second-T in the NHL with four shorthanded goals this season. All four shorthanded markers have come in November (first-T in NHL; Arizona), including three in the last six outings. The team has found success along the entire penalty kill of late, killing off 14-of-16 opponent power plays (87.5 pct.) over the last six games, including all three Toronto power plays on Friday and have killed off 30-of-35 attempts in November (85.7 pct.; sixth in NHL).

STREAKING NOVEMBER The Blue Jackets have collected points in eight of nine games (6-1-2) and their last four-straight home outings (3-0-1). They have outscored opponents 31-20 since Nov. 4 at Anaheim. They are 7-2-2 (16 points) in their first 11 November games, ranking third-T among NHL teams in victories and fourth-T in points in the month. The club has won at least eight games in each of the past three Novembers, including a franchise-high nine victories and 21 points in November 2016 (9-2-3). They went 8-5-0 in November 2015 and 8-4-1 last November.

AMONG THE LEAGUE’S BEST Columbus has been among the best teams in the NHL in picking up wins over the past few seasons. Dating back to the 2016-17 campaign, the Jackets are fourth-T in the league in wins (108; Minnesota), trailing only Washington (116) along with Tampa Bay (112) and Nashville (110).

WHAT CAN CAM DO FOR YOU? Cam Atkinson continued his torrid stretch of play, notching a goal on Friday to stretch his career-best goal streak to six games (8-4-12). It’s tied for the second longest goal streak in franchise history (Rick Nash; Dec. 30, 2005-Jan. 11, 2006), one from the all-time mark set by Geoff Sanderson (Nov. 5-17, 2002). Atkinson had his multi-point game streak snapped on Friday with his four-game streak (Nov. 12- 19; 6-4-10) tied for the second longest streak in CBJ history (Panarin in 2017-18). Dating back to Jan. 25, 2018 when he returned from a foot injury, he ranks fourth-T in the NHL in goals (32 in 54 games played).

ON THE FARM The AHL’s Cleveland Monsters currently sit third in the North Division with a 9-7-2-0 record falling 6-5 in overtime to Toronto on Friday. Zac Dalpe is second-T in goals in the AHL with 12-9-21 while Eric Robinson (8-6-14) and Nathan Gerbe (3-11-14) also lead the Monsters in scoring. Emil Bemstrom (4th round in 2017) is first in the SHL in goals (10-4-14 in 19 games for Djurgarden). Veini Vehvilainen (6th round in 2018) has posted a 11-3-2 record, 1.30 GAA, .942 SV% and four shutouts in his first 16 games for Karpat (Liiga). Alternate captain (1st round in 2018) has 10-8-18 in his first 19 games with London (OHL). Trey Fix-Wolansky (7th round in 2018) leads the WHL in assists and points (tied) with 15-36-61 in 26 games for Edmonton.
