Smith Continued Prior to joining CBS, Rolland Smith worked for Metromedia Television in Washington, D.C., as White House and Capital Hill correspondent and was subsequently transferred to New York, as co-anchor of the WNEW- TV Ten O’Clock News, where he also served as an accredited United Nations Correspondent. In 1968, Smith reported from the front lines of the Vietnam War during the height of the Tet Offensive. His war zone coverage took him from the Mekong Delta to the DMZ, for Corinthian Broadcasting. For his many contributions to society, culture, and for representing the broadcast journalism profession with honor and distinction, Five Towns College will bestow the Doctor of Humane Letters (D.H.L) honoris causa, upon Rolland G. Smith at the 44th Opening Convocation of Five Towns College. CORY ROONEY is a Grammy Award Winning American songwriter, record produc- er, and C.E.O. of Cory Rooney Group. He has written, produced, and developed many successful songs and careers for a literal “Who’s Who in the Music World,” thereby becoming one of the most influential voices in popular culture of our time.

    From a young age Sabrina Carpenter already had a clear command on what she intended to do with her life: she wanted to sing. “We have video of me in my kitchen. I was so young and was singing ‘God Bless America’,” the effervescent Carpenter recalls. She was too little to even pronounce all the words correctly, but she knew the performance felt right. “I know a lot of people don’t know what they want to do when they’re that young,” she says in a grand understatement, “but I had a pretty good idea and my heart was pretty much set on it.” In the years since, Carpenter, 15, has never wavered in her desire and ambition. While her talents have expanded into acting— she plays the rebellious Maya Hart on Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” and is starring in the upcoming Disney Channel original movie “Adventures in Babysitting” — music remains her first love. Her passion is evident on her full-length album debut, Eyes Wide Open. The Hollywood Records release is an upbeat collection of uplifting, infectious, well-crafted pop songs, many of them co-written by Carpenter, and all delivered in her expressive, appealing soprano. Because of her TV shooting schedule and other commitments, the album developed over a long and creative arch during which time Sabrina was able to nurture her artistic and musical point of view. “I learned a lot about what I like and more about myself and my capabilities,” she says. “And what I’m able to do with my voice.” Songwriting also took her on a path of discovery.

MusiCares’ services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies, and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality. MusiCares also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community. 2 Over the past fiscal year, MusiCares served its largest number of clients to date providing more than $3 million in aid to approximately 3,000 clients. INTRODUCTION The Recording Academy established MusiCares in 1989 to provide the music community with a lifesaving safety net in times of need. We experience a great demand for the range of services we provide — from emergency financial assistance to addiction recovery resources, and this past year has been no exception. It is our ability to meet these increasing needs that speaks to the inherent generosity of music makers, from major artists to young industry professionals. In 1983, his career as a world-class studio talent was jump-started when Michael Jackson tapped Brian to begin work with him on the album BAD, an experience that proved nothing short of life- changing, working closely with the most famous musician on earth and also witnessing the interactions between Michael and his producer, the legendary Quincy Jones. By 1989, Brian had risen to the top of his field as a mix engineer and producer. Working independently for every major label and amassing an impressive string of hit albums, singles and soundtracks for artists such as Madonna, Roxy Music, Prince, Seal, Pearl Jam, Tokio Hotel, Wolfmother and All Time Low. To date, Brian's album credits total a combined 53 Gold, Platinum and multi-platinum albums representing millions of dollars in sales.
