Intimate Live Girls Benjamin Halligan Keywords: aura, intimacy, kissing, authenticity, liveness, social media, spectacle, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Terry Richardson, Peter Gabriel Abstract: The arena concert requires a particular type of liveness of performance in order to transcend impersonal mass entertainment. Liveness here looks to authenticity and happenstance, privileges personal communications and seeks to live in the moment, and in this way the live performance then meets and matches or even surpasses the virtual life of the artist or group. The concert must be both mass spectacle and an individual and singular experience for those witnessing and participating in it. Without these latter essential attributes, which can be read as the auratic and authentic replacing the virtual, the arena concert falls short of ontological expectations of live music. In recent years the mise-en-scène of the arena concert has become calibrated to female artists with, seemingly, a concomitant feminisation of the event. In this, the space is often given over to intimacy, empathy, and presented as an insight into the life, and even philosophy, of the performer. -
Keane Kommer Til Store VEGA På Deres Cause and Effect Tour
“I found myself wondering how I had come to let this very enigmatic and important relationship in my life drift,” udtalte Tom. -

The Problem of Philosophy in Siegfried Kracauer's
PECULIAR THEORY: THE PROBLEM OF PHILOSOPHY IN SIEGFRIED KRACAUER’S THEORY OF FILM Nicholas Alexander Warr Submitted for the qualification of PhD University Of East Anglia School of Film, Television and Media Studies 2013 © “This copy of the thesis has been supplied on condition that anyone who consults it is understood to recognise that its copyright rests with the author and that no quotation from the thesis, nor any information derived therefrom, may be published without the author’s prior, written consent”. ABSTRACT The republication of Theory of Film: The Redemption of Physical Reality by Siegfried Kracauer (1889 – 1966) in 1997 marked not just the highpoint of a period of renewed interest in his work, a period initiated by a series of events organized to mark the centenary of his birth, but also the limit of his scholarly influence. Though enthusiasm for his early sociological and cultural criticism written in Frankfurt and Berlin during the 1920s and 1930s continues to permeate research in numerous other disciplines within the humanities, his film theory continues to have little or no impact on the debates that currently define film studies. The reason for this, I argue, relates to the problematic role of philosophy in his film theory. Focusing primarily on Theory of Film, I examine in detail what makes Kracauer’s theory peculiar; peculiar in the sense that it belongs specifically to the film medium and peculiar in regard to the ambiguous philosophical claims that distinguish it from subsequent methods of film analysis. The contemporary image of Kracauer as a cultural philosopher, I argue, restricts how we read the relationship between film and philosophy in his work. -

Keane After selling 10 million copies of their three award-winning albums, it's no exaggeration to say that Keane is firmly established as one of the world's most successful, innovative and cherished bands. The three members of Keane - Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley and Richard Hughes - began making music together as teenagers in sleepy East Sussex. Keane's brilliant 2004 debut album, Hopes And Fears, perpetuated them into the spotlight. Driven by literate, heart-tugging anthems like “Somewhere Only We Know,” “Everybody's Changing” and “Bedshaped,” the record catapulted Keane to global success, selling almost six million copies and picking up countless awards (even in 2010 it has been nominated for the Best British Album of 30 Years award at the Brits). In 2006, Keane released their second album Under The Iron Sea. The record received an incredible response at the band's increasingly large live shows. Keane's third album, Perfect Symmetry, followed in 2008 with its lead single, “Spiralling,” a bouncing, Bowie-tinged, synth-pop belter. -

Fifty Years of Songs and Large Concerts for Solidarity
Solarity, this will be the word that I’ll make up. I know it’ll open the eyes that are getting used to not wanting to see. Solarity will mean light and warmth that impregnates each being, Like a hug of humanity that I would want around my being. Solarity, this is the idea, if you can accept it, it will give us hope. Eros Ramazzotti, Solarità, album: Calma Aparente, 2005. Throughout history, Occidental music―specifically the style known as pop-rock that surfaced sixty years ago―has maintained a close relationship with the concept of solidarity. This essay will focus its attention on the musical feedback around the notion of solidarity emanating from Europe and the United States. The essay centers on certain given songs that have signaled a turning point with respect to this concept, that is, songs that have meant a break from the past since they were played for the first time. Likewise, the analysis stresses the individual prominence of certain singers and musical initiatives that, by means of music, have promoted solidarity. -

In the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis, musical discourse can be interpreted as social practice: it refers to specific means of representing specific aspects of the social (musical) sphere. The article introduces a general view of contemporary musical discourse, and analyses genres from the point of ‘semiosis’, ‘social agents’, ‘social relations’, ‘social context’, and ‘text’. These components of musical discourse analysis, in their various aspects and combinations, should help thoroughly examine the context of contemporary musical art, and determine linguistic features specific to different genres of musical discourse. 1. Introduction Contemporary musical discourse is of utmost research interest due to the global status of the English language, which has been adopted as a new ‘lingua franca’ in the sphere of contemporary musical art, operating across national borders and becoming increasingly multicultural and multinational. Musical discourse in all its diversity opens up infinite possibilities for multidimensional -

The band Keane’s distinctive piano-based pop has seduced millions of ears, both in the trio’s native England and abroad. In Keane’s emotive songs, Tom Chaplin’s soaring vocals, keyboardist Tim Rice-Oxley’s vintage Yamaha CP70B piano, and Richard Hughes’ subtle drum shadings merge into a dynamic and complex sound world. Following the dramatic success of their Island Records debut, Hopes and Fears , and 18 months of world tours—including a captivating appearance on Live 8’s London stage—Keane is back in the studio preparing their as-yet-untitled second album.
