Oktober 2020 Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde des Hoachanas Children Fund In diesem Rundbrief möchte ich von den tollen Erfolgen im Bildungsbereich berichten! Es ist eine große Freude für mich: ich begleite die jungen Leute ja schon seit vielen Jahren und kenne die Verhältnisse, aus denen sie kommen. Bitte, freuen Sie sich alle mit, denn alle Freunde des HCF haben das ermöglicht!

Wie Sie wissen, besteht der HCF seit 20 Jahren. Nach der Gründung dauerte es einige Jahre, bis das erste Patenkind die 12. Klasse mit so guten Noten abgeschlossen hatte, dass es die Universität besuchen konnte. Danach dauerte es noch einmal einige Jahre, bis das ein weiteres Patenkind schaffte und wieder nach einigen Jahren ein drittes. Diese einzelnen „sponsored students“ hatten alle einen Spender, der sie unterstützte. Im Laufe der Jahre waren so immer ein bis zwei Studenten an der Universität.

Ende 2019 bewarben sich plötzlich drei Paten-„Kinder“, um in das HCF- Förderprogramm für ein Studium aufgenommen zu werden. Sie hatten alle in der Abschlussklasse in Hoachanas so gute Leistungen erbracht, dass sie zum Studium zugelassen wurden. Ein weiteres ehemaliges Patenkind hat selbstständig über Fernkurse (NAMCOL) die nötigen Punkte erreicht und sich ebenfalls beworben. Wir konnten sie alle aufnehmen, da wir genügend Spenden hatten. So sind jetzt vier Studierende im ersten Studienjahr. Hier stellen sich die jungen Leute vor: (Ich lasse den englischen Text und schreibe nur eine kurze Zusammenfassung in Deutsch. Alle können nur studieren, weil sie vom HCF unterstützt werden. (Zur Erklärung: Familien, die es sich irgendwie leisten können, schicken ihre Kinder für die letzten Klassen nach Mariental oder Rehoboth, weil in diesen Schulen mehr Fächer angeboten werden. In Hoachanas bleiben nur Schüler, die aus wirklich sehr bedürftigen Verhältnissen kommen.) Die Studenten haben unterschrieben, einen Teil der Unterstützung dem HCF zurückzuzahlen. Das Studienjahr in Namibia beginnt mit dem neuen Kalenderjahr. Alle bewerben sich auch für die staatliche Unterstützung zur Befreiung der Studiengelder.)

Nadia, 19 Jahre alt, studiert im ersten Jahr Sozialarbeit. Greetings to HCF- donors My name is Nadia Hanse, I was born on the 14 February 2001 in a small settlement of Hoachanas and grew up in these dusty streets of this settlement. I am a first year student at the University of Namibia, studying in the field of Bachelors of Arts Social Work. I decided that I'll study in a field contributing to my society development that's why I chose to study social work. Seeing how my society lacks more knowledge on society development programs also encouraged me, I want to help my society to be a better place one day especially for the upcoming generation. I just started with my studies this year meaning I am doing my first year of studies that is equivalent to four years, I will complete my studies in 2023 with God's grace. I can say that I am very fortunate that I get sponsorship from HCF as it is the only source of income. Both my parents are unemployed, my father is a subsistence farmer and my mother just a volunternary cook of a HCF soup kitchen (Crystal Soup KItchen) so both of them just work to put bread on the table, no means of income at all. If it wasn't for HCF I'm sure that I would've never got to continue with my studies, even if I lose this sponsorship by any means then it's obvious that I will also lose my studies as I do not have any other relatives or organisation responsible for paying my studies. I hope, believe and pray that HCF still stands tall during this heavy time of the pandemic and continue sponsoring us the students. Sincerely Nadia Hanse

Good day everyone I hope you are all well. I can't complain from my side. My name is Christy /Garu//nab I was born on the 10th of August 1999, my subject of study is Khoekhoegowab, our mother language and English. My professional goal is to become a teacher within the next five years. I started with my studies in 2020 so this is my first year of studying at a higher learning institution, so I will finish with my studies in the year 2024

I definitely will say that without the help of the HCF my hopes and dreams of becoming a teacher won't become true because I only have HCF as my financial help to pay for my studies at the University of Namibia, I don't have any other kind of support from government to pay for my studies. I am an orphan and my extended family members also cannot afford to pay for my studies because they do not have work that pay the high salaries. So from my point of view if the HCF wasn't here than I do not know where I would be today Kind regards Christy /Garu//nab

Zinedane Maritshane, 19 Jahre alt, studiert Jura im 1. Jahr Good Afternoon, My name is Zinedine Maritshane, a young man from Hoachanas, Namibia. I was born on the 16th of September 2001. I finished my school at P.J. Tsaitsaib Combined School. HCF enrolled me into the program when I was 8-years-old. Since then, I'm a fully sponsored learner. Today, I am a law student studying for the Bachelor of Laws (B.Juris) degree at the University of Namibia with HCF paying for my studies. My studies started this year(2020). It is a four-year course and will end in 2024 and when I finished with my studies, I aspire to become a prominent lawyer and/or politician. The HCF also pays for hostel accommodation, transport, and monthly allowances. To add to that, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the HCF also provides internet access (WLAN / Wi-Fi), printing and scanning services for eLearning purposes. Basically, it fits in where the university was supposed to. I have always dreamt big and believed that nothing can hold me back from achieving those dreams and the HCF has made sure that this happens. As a matter of fact, there would have been no university education for me if the HCF hadn't sponsored me. The HCF took care of ALL my university costs from the start of this year. Quite frankly, I don't want to imagine what would've become of me if the HCF hasn't funded me in all these years and I hope it continues to do the good work. Very good morning to you all. I trust all is well with all of you. I am doing great on this side too.

My name is Naressa Araes, a 21 year old HCF beneficiary who has been in this organisation for about 5 years now. I was born in 1999 on 28th of July in my hometown (Hoachanas) which is situated 65 km South East from Kalkrand. I am currently studying Bachelors of Education (upper primary) at the University of Namibia, Khomasdal Campus in Windhoek. My goal is to become a successful, independent teacher who would then give back to the community of Hoachanas the knowledge I have acquired at the University of Namibia by coming back to our community and serve the young ones to also reach where I am today or even do better than me. Being a teacher is really fun, challenges are priceless and rewards are fantastic yet learning is ongoing. I started studying in 2018 and will hopefully finish next year 2021 since my course is a 4 year course. Moreover I came this far with the help of Hoachanas Children Fund and I am really thankful for everything this organization has done for me so far and is still about to do for our community at large. Furthemore I would like to express my gratitude towards HCF. Your support is much appreciated. Good day dear sponsors! I am Mentolen Haubas one of Hoachanas Children Fund sponsored students; born 18 November 1994 in Hoachanas. I am 26 years old and are currently enrolled at University of Namibia, studying three years Diploma of Junior Primary Education from 2020 to 2022.

I would have never been at university if it wasn't through Hoachanas Children Fund. My parents can't afford to pay my studies since they‘re earning little income. My studies will be incomplete without Hoachanas children funds assistance. I am very grateful of their support and i will do my best to study hard not to disappoint them after they have put so much effort in me.

Good evening to all. Hope we all are doing fine. My name is Jenny Jantze. Born on the 23rd of December 1999. I am a 2nd year Unam student, doing Education as a course (Bachelor of education, Honours). Fully sponsored by HCF. I finished school in 2018 and started with my tertiary studies immediately the following year which was 2019 and now in 2020 I am senior. The course I am doing is a 4 year long and I now have two full years before finishing at Unam. One of my dreams was to become an educator someday and I am pushing beyond limits to make it a reality soon enough. Be an inspiration to others and share my knowledge.

I do not come from a family that is financially well off and they would never have afforded to send me to university. Both my parents don't work and so it would have been impossible for me to be studying now if it was not through HCF. HCF has come a long way in helping me throughout my schooling and is still helping at tertiary level. Me and my family could never have made it this far if it was not through each and everyone who plays a role in making HCF a strong helping hand. Alwina Jantze, 23 Jahre, Kurs zur Kindergärtnerin Dear donors My name is Alwina Jantze , I was born on the 23 Feb 97 in Hoachanas, a small settlement in Hardap Region. I am currently busy studying “Early Childhood Development”, something that I always wanted to study , because a lot of children lack great support and love at the earliest stage of their school career. This passionate seed was planted in 2016 when I started a small English kindergarten in Hoachanas with two of my family ladies, but then because of the lack of sponsors we could not continue and were forced to close down. My ECD course started in Feb 2020 and will end in Nov 2020. Then I will apply for further studies (Early Childhood Development) through Namcol.

All the honour goes to HCF because without their help nothing would have been possible, at the moment there is no income at our house at this point of time. Due to COVID 19 it is very difficult to find a job as the unemployment rate in Namibia is increasing rapidly, companies retrenching people due to lack of income. It really is a great privilege to have someone who can help you to study in this difficult time of COVID 19, many students cannot study further because sponsors are not able to help anymore. Dear HCF - donors My name is Loundy Goagoseb and I was born in Windhoek on the 22nd of June in 1994. I grew up with my grandparents after they moved to Hoachanas in 2000. I started my school there and finished grade 10 in 2010 where after I continued my high school in Rehoboth .

After my high school, I went to study for a degree in accounting which I obtained in 2016 and now I am studying for Chaterred Accounting through South Africa. Hoachanas Children Fund has been so far the most important financial support that brought me this far in my career. My parents have passed away long ago and my grandmother would have never afforded my studies.

Unser Hauptziel, die Förderung von Bildung hat schon ganz tolle Früchte getragen. (siehe Homepage: www.hoachanas.de/category/weiterfuehrende/ ) Etliche ehemalige Patenkinder haben schon eine gute Ausbildung – und eine Anstellung. Tatsächlich sind es sogar noch einige mehr als auf der Homepage aufgeführt.

Jetzt haben wir den Erfolg! Von den 22 Schülern der Abschlussklassen in Hoachanas haben 15 (!) die erforderlichen Leistungen, um an der Universität studieren zu können! Die jungen Leute sehen eine Chance zur Weiterbildung und haben sich richtig angestrengt! Bisher konnten wir immer alle als „sponsored students“ aufnehmen, die sich beworben haben. Das wird im nächsten Jahr nicht möglich sein, wir werden auswählen müssen. Aber wie viele können wir neu aufnehmen? Naressa hat einen Spender, der in den vergangenen Jahren ihr Studiengeld, Unterkunft und Verpflegung gezahlt hat, für die anderen sind genügend Teilspenden zusammengekommen. Und deren weiteres Studium ist auch für das nächste Jahr gesichert. Für alle zusammen haben wir 2020 rund 500 000 NAD ausgegeben, nach heutigem Kurs ca. 25 000 €. (Loundy führt für jeden Studenten ein eigenes Konto) Für einen Studenten kalkulieren wir mit 3000 €.

Der Erfolg spornt an! Ich bin ziemlich sicher, dass in ganz Namibia aus keinem anderen so kleinen Ort wie Hoachanas so viele Studenten kommen! Sie sind wieder kleine Samenkörner, die weitere Früchte tragen können, z.B. als Lehrer in Hoachanas, drei ehemalige Patenkinder sind ja jetzt bereits Lehrer an der P.J.Tsaitsaib-Schule! Aber vielleicht werden einige von ihnen sogar einmal zur Elite des Landes gehören und eine führende Rolle in Namibia spielen! (Zinedine ist bereits Parlamentsmitglied – ohne Stimme, natürlich, aber immerhin „Junior National Councillor in the parliament“. Naressa setzt sich auf Universitätsebene für die Studenten ein, Christy hilft nachmittags den Schülern der Abschlussklassen in Hoachanas, Alwina leitet immer wieder den HCF-Chor).

Die Schülerinnen und Schüler der Abschlussklassen müssen sich nun bewerben und dann wird ein Gremium darüber entscheiden, wer aufgenommen wird. Die Mitglieder des Gremiums werden Menschen aus Hoachanas sein (Schule, HCF-Team) außerdem vom Hoachanas Development Trust und von der Seite der Spender. Selbstverständlich können sie sich auch für die Aufnahme in einem „Vocational Training Center“ bewerben. Hier kann man Handwerksberufe wie Elektriker, Mechaniker oder Hauswirtschaft lernen. Aber da gibt es nur wenige Plätze.

Bildungsförderung in Hoachanas Selbstverständlich unterstützen wir weiterhin die Patenkinder und auch die Schulen in Hoachanas. Z.B. haben wir in der vergangenen Woche Taschenrechner an die Patenkinder der 8. Und 9. Klassen ausgegeben und wir werden auch wieder Kopierpapier kaufen und über die Patenkinder den Schulen zukommen lassen.

Das Hostel (Schülerheim), in dem etwa 150 Kinder untergebracht waren, ist weiterhin geschlossen, da es den Hygienestandards nicht genügt. Trotzdem gehen inzwischen fast alle Kinder wieder in die Schule. Sie wurden von Verwandten oder Freunden in Hoachanas aufgenommen. Und das in Häusern, in denen es ohnehin kaum Platz gibt und Essen gibt es sowieso nie genug. Eine – wie ich finde – bemerkenswerte gemeinschaftliche Leistung der Menschen in Hoachanas. Um die Versorgung mit Lebensmitteln etwas zu erleichtern, haben wir auch an die Patenkinder, die jetzt wieder die Schule besuchen dürfen, eine „Combo“, also ein Lebensmittelpaket ausgegeben.
