Shahid Khan, Illinois
Shahid Khan Illinois ’70 Oxford Cup Roll No. 082 July 27, 2017 | Snowbird, Utah Shahid R. Khan, Illinois ’70, was initiated into the Sigma Rho Chapter on October 12, 1968 as Roll No. 1086. On January 4, 2012, he became the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. His dream of owning an NFL team had become reality on December 14, 2011, in a unanimous 32-0 vote by NFL owners in support of his purchase of the franchise. Khan’s passion for the National Football League took root long before his entry into the league. His dream of one day owning an NFL team began while watching games with his fraternity brothers in the basement of the Beta Theta Pi house as a student at the University of Illinois. Through the success of his own business, Flex-N-Gate Corporation, his dream came true 40 years later. Khan’s history with Flex-N-Gate started in 1970, when he worked at the company as an engineering student at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. A naturalized U.S. citizen, Khan came from his native Pakistan in 1967 at the age of 16 to attend college. When he graduated in 1971, he became Flex-N-Gate’s engineering manager. In 1978, Khan left Flex-N-Gate and with $13,000 in savings and a $50,000 loan from the Small Business Loan Corporation, he created the start-up Bumper Works, which revolutionized the industry through an innovative one-piece bumper design that is still considered the industry standard for all seamless steel bumpers worldwide. -

Lone Bellow – Episode Transcript Matt: for Those Who Are Unaware of Steven Pressfield, Pressfield Is an Author of a Book Called the War of Art
THE RESISTANCE – EPISODE 18 Zach Williams of The Lone Bellow – Episode Transcript Matt: For those who are unaware of Steven Pressfield, Pressfield is an author of a book called The War of Art. It’s actually sort of our source inspirational material for the podcast, so Zach I’d love just to read a couple lines and have you riff on that, and we’ll see where it goes over the next few minutes. So Pressfield says this: “Most of us have two lives: the life we live, and the unlived life within us. And between the two stands the resistance.” Zach, I’d love to know for you, what form resistance is taking, on the verge of another album release, or even personally in other creative ways, whatever that strikes you. Zach: I think some of my base levels, I struggle with people-pleasing, and that can be with my band, that can be during a show. It’s something that I have to be aware of. So I think I needed to figure out some things going on inside me that would easily lead me to making something that I didn’t want to make, once it was all said and done, and not getting carried away just in the process of creating the music. Every single sound that you record, every single emotion that you try to capture, it all can be tied back in to one thing in someone’s soul. For me, that can easily be some sort of fear. I started writing music in 2003, and it was a very cathartic thing. -

INITIALS C.C. Liner Notes
Chris Connelly : INITIALS C.C. Out-takes, Rarities and Personal Favourites 1982-2002 vol.1 01. Detestimony – Fini Tribe: This was the “A” side of an EP called “Let the Tribe Grow,” written and recorded when the Fini Tribe was going through great musical changes. We had acquired an Ensoniq ‘Mirage’ sampling keyboard, and as was the same for a lot of bands at the time, it changed everything, opened up a lot of doors, and led us into some very uncharted waters. The actual piece was whittled down from a fifteen-minute opus we had written. I remember being in Philip Pinsky’s bedroom one night with John Vick. Philip’s then-roommate, Lindsay, gave us an old quarter-inch reel of tape he had. On it was a beautiful recording of the church bells you hear on the song; we sampled them and came up with the melody. The EP actually did better than any of us had anticipated and became a sort of hit in the Ibiza clubs at the very advent of the acid house/rave phenomenon. We actually went ahead and re-wrote/re- structured the song for the WaxTrax! Records release (“Make it Internal/Detestimony Revisited”) a couple of years later. 02. Mania – Murder Inc.: Certainly what I feel is the most compelling song on the one and only album released by Murder Inc. The band was basically Killing Joke, minus Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke’s singer), plus me, as well as the original drummer, Paul Fergusson, and newer drummer, Martin Atkins. The sessions took place at Pachyderm Studios in rural Minnesota during September of 1991. -
