PASSION DRIVE PERFORMANCE TH ANNIVERSARY 25OF THE BLG AWARDS Proud to be Canadian Presented by the Canadian Athletic Foundation The BLG Awards Fact Sheet Year Established: 1993 The Awards Ceremony: The 25th Annual BLG Awards will be presented on Monday, May 1st at 7:30 pm (MDT) at the Martha Cohen Theatre, Calgary, Alta. Background: The BLG Awards Ceremony honours Canadian university athletes and promotes post-graduate studies across the country. Understanding the financial constraints on athletics programs, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) in conjunction with U SPORTS (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport – CIS), established these awards to assist in focusing attention on the importance of athletics at Canadian universities and to showcase the exceptional student athletes in Canada. The Canadian Athletic The CAF is a non-profit board established to administer the BLG Awards and protect the integrity of the selection process. Foundation (CAF): The Board of Trustees consists of 18 members from five Canadian cities representing several major corporations. Awards Criteria: Each of the 56 U SPORTS universities nominates one male and one female Athlete of the Year. One male and one female are then selected from each of the four U SPORTS conferences: Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA), Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Réseau du sport etudiant du Quebec (RSEQ), and Atlantic University Sport (AUS). To be eligible for a BLG Award, nominees must meet the following requirements: • Must have participated in a U SPORTS-sanctioned sport for a minimum period of two years (including the current year of nomination); • Must be in a course of study leading to their first undergraduate degree or graduate program; • Must be the university’s Athlete of the Year or runner-up; and • Cannot be a previous BLG Award winner.

  • Trevor Cherry
Wednesday 13 May 2020 GUERNSEY PRESS OBITUARY 23 OBITUARY Trevor Cherry by Advocate Footballer Trevor Raymond Ashton Cherry, pictured in 1981. (28247216) T IS WITH regret that I have learnt of the sad demise of my friend Trevor Cherry as a result of a massive heart attack. This makes it two former footballers who have died within a Ishort period of time. Trevor was in the same school year as myself and over the years we had become friends and only about six weeks ago my other half was with the denizens of the chairman’s suite at City in Madrid, of which Trevor was part, as a result of his friendship and business association with Mike Marshall (himself a former player). Trevor had been a regular visitor over the years to City and always had time to talk about his former colleagues at Elland Road. Indeed, I had hoped many years ago during the second coming of Malcolm Allison to persuade him to join City to give the defence more stability. Before going into detail I must say that he was a very self-effacing and modest man, unlike most footballers. There will be many tributes to Trevor but when Bradford City went into administration in the early 1980s Stafford Higginbottom, later chairman, said to me that unlike many managers he had a brain (and not just in his feet) and was very sensiblel. Prophetic words, it proved. Trevor was born in Huddersfield and was always very proud of the town (and had heard of the world-famous Choral Society) and eventually forced his way into the first team.

  • Tiger Rags Phase 1 Guide
Exhibition guide for phase one: Plurality of Polyester 3 July to 4 September Cabinet 1 Shirt on left: 1976-78 home shirt, number 7, worn by Gordon Nisbet. Stripes returned in 1975 after twelve years of solid amber shirts, but the most striking element of the new kit was the white shorts that created a throwback look, referencing Tigers kits used between World Wars. Shirt advertising was still a few years away, but sportswear firms were pushing boundaries in the 1970s: Europa of Leicestershire became the first supplier to put their logo on a City kit. First used in 1975/76, this shirt design is commonly associated with signed Billy Bremner signing from Leeds United. There were several versions, the first of which had Europa's logo without a wordmark, that was added for 1976/77. For 1978/79, City replaced the monogram with a tiger head crest, at the same time dropping white shorts in favour of the black set previously used with the away kit. Shirt on right: 1992/93 home shirt, number 5, worn by Rob Dewhurst The best designed Hull City kit ever? Not a chance, but certainly the most iconic. Third tier teams rarely get national media coverage, but the 1992/93 home shirt, with it's all over tiger stripe print, ensured its everlasting notoriety. Wild designs were not unusual in the early 1990s, as kit suppliers showed off technological advances in printing, but they tended to be on away kits. Not so with City as Matchwinner took inspiration from the club's nickname.

FROM THE RED LION TO THE NATIONAL LEAGUE Colin Robertson John Clements Rachel O’Connor with Kevin Collier Bruce Speller Joe Priestley David Robertson Tom Feaheny Foreword by John Helm Dedication This book is dedicated to the host of staff, volunteers and contractors both past and present who have made Guiseley AFC the family friendly club that it is now an integral part of the local community and of the wider football family. The Early Days The Early Days 6 Jonathan Peate and Nethermoor 7 Season 1910-11 8 Season 1911-12 9 Season 1912-13 9 Season 1913-14 10 The War Years 1914-18 10 Season 1919-20 11 eigning West Riding County Amateur League Season 1956-57 champions Guiseley hoped they would be able to retain the championship trophy as they embarked on the new League campaign. In Rthe end they would do so, but not in the circumstances anyone might have predicted. The Nethermoor vintage of 1956-57 both shone and disappointed during a controversial campaign. However, Guiseley soon began to slump and exits from the cup competitions, including the Wharfedale Challenge Cup which was won by Otley based DP&E, saw the Lions’ season take a turn for the worse. By early 1957 Guiseley were languishing towards the bottom of the table in 13th place when Mother Nature intervened.
