From Baby Boomers to Generation Y Millennials: Ideas on How Professors Might Structure Classes for this Media Conscious Generation Marilyn Koeller National University New techniques for matching instructional strategies for the Millennial generation have been researched and discussed in this article. Some comparisons with previous generations have been outlined. These strategies are meant to meet the learning needs of Generation Y Millennial students in order to make their education more meaningful in both the on ground and online teaching and learning environment. Specific examples have been provided for both venues with a focus on the online environment. Hopefully, these strategies will not only support learner centered instruction and interactivity, but will address the communication preferences of Millennials in today’s colleges and universities. INTRODUCTION Four groups were compared in various categories to make the transition to what is valued by the Millennials. Through these comparisons, various instructional strategies will be outlined to produce an effective learning environment for today’s students (Wilson & Gerber, 2008). The Generational Divide The traditionalists generation was born between 1925 and 1945. There were about seventy five million traditionalists. This group was considered loyal to their teachers and authority in general. They valued logic and discipline and teachers used lectures, memorization and one way communication to deliver content in teaching. The instructional strategies used were based on processing information and learning basic skills that were given to students by teachers. There was one right answer that did not allow for change or thinking “outside the box”. It was important for students to learn basic facts and to be able to spell correctly, use correct grammar, and compute without using a calculator (Wilson & Gerber, 2008). -

Keith Campbell1 1University of Georgia 2Purdue University Abstract Objective: Increasing attention has been paid to the distinction between the dimensions of narcissistic grandiosity and vulnerability. We examine the degree to which basic traits underlie vulnerable narcissism, with a particular emphasis on the importance of Neuroticism and Agreeableness. Method: Across four samples (undergraduate, online community, clinical-community), we conduct dominance analyses to partition the variance predicted in vulnerable narcissism by the Five-Factor Model personality domains, as well as compare the empirical profiles generated by vulnerable narcissism and Neuroticism. Results: These analyses demonstrate that the lion’s share of variance is explained by Neuroticism (65%) and Agreeableness (19%). Similarity analyses were also conducted in which the extent to which vulnerable narcissism and Neuroticism share similar empirical networks was tested using an array of criteria, including self-, informant, and thin slice ratings of personality; interview-based ratings of personality disorder and pathological traits; and self-ratings of adverse events and functional out- comes. The empirical correlates of vulnerable narcissism and Neuroticism were nearly identical (MrICC 5 .94). Partial analyses demonstrated that the variance in vulnerable narcissism not shared with Neuroticism is largely specific to disagreeableness- related traits such as distrustfulness and grandiosity. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate the parsimony of using basic personality to study personality pathology and have implications for how vulnerable narcissism might be approached clinically. -

Narcissistic Personality Disorders Are Leaders of Destructive Groups
The Personality Disorders Ten to thirteen percent of the world population suffers from some form of a personality disorder. These people lead lives that few can understand, or want to understand. The personality disorders are not only persistent and unrelenting, but also very hard to cure. Most people with personality disorders, unlike other psychological disorders, can function normally in every aspect of society outside their disorder. The character portrayed by Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction is a good example of a Histrionic Personality Disorder. Robert De Niro’s role in Cape Fear is another example of the “villain” in movies having the characteristics of an Antisocial Personality Disorder. Many leaders of destructive groups (David Moses Berg, Children of God; Jim Jones, People’s Temple; David Koresh, Branch Davidians, etc.) also appear to be examples of a particular personality disorder called Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Clearly, not all Narcissistic Personality Disorders are leaders of destructive groups. However, in our experience, all leaders of truly destructive groups, if not true NPD’s, exhibit extreme narcissistic traits and/or tendencies. The above listed individuals, and many others, all share in common these characteristics in an uncanny way. As the DSM IV states, “Many highly successful individuals display personality traits that might be considered narcissistic. Only when these traits are inflexible, maladaptive, and persisting and cause significant functional impairment or subjective distress do they constitute Narcissistic Personality Disorder.” Personality disorders are stable and all-pervasive, not episodic. They affect most of the areas of functioning of the sufferer: his career, his interpersonal relationships, his social functioning. -

Levit L. Z., Ph. D. The Centre for Psychological Health and Education, Minsk, Belarus Abstract. The article under consideration deals with the theoretical analysis and the practical research of the ratio between the two notions: egoism and altruism. The author shows the inadequacy of the one-sided, morally loaded interpretations of both terms. The scores of two ESM-investigations mostly show the positive correlation between the “egoism” and the “altruism” scales in a person’s everyday activity. The results obtained give the opportunity to replace the inadequate view on egoism and altruism as opposites by a more appropriate metaphor of the older and the younger brother. Such an approach removes the idea of antagonism which is usually ascribed to the egoism-altruism interrelation. The results of an experimental survey of 359 undergraduate students showed that individuals who scored high on grandiose narcissism showed greater donation intentions when the donor’s behavior was public, while they showed lower donation intentions when it was not. In addition, individuals who scored high on vulnerable narcissism showed lower donation intentions when the donor’s behavior was not public. This study contributes to narcissism and the donation behavior literature and proposes theoretical and practical implications as per narcissistic individual differences. Future research possibilities are also discussed. Answer: Envy/Jealousy 2. You’ve heard the term—green with envy? Ever wonder why it’s associated with green? • Because of this verse—green is the color of sickness. • When someone is sick, often they are described as green or yellow in tint. • This particular sin so affects our emotional roots and physical well-being that it can actually make us sick. • The ancient Greeks are probably the source of the color attachment—they thought envy was caused by an over production of bile which turned human skin slightly green. B. SERMON IDEA 1. Envy is defined as a feeling of discontented or a resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck. • Envy and jealousy are related—they are two sides of the same coin and often used interchangeably • Envy is the angry desire to have something someone else has; jealousy is the angry desire to keep what we possess and are afraid someone else wants. • We will use them interchangeably in our study today. 2. The Bible condemns envy and most forms of jealousy • The slightly difficult part is recognizing that jealously is not always sinful o Jealousy is not wrong when it involves an exclusive relationship. o God is jealous for His people and their worship of Him.
