ABOUT US

Srujanavani Voluntary Association, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh is a congregation of committed individuals working for a common cause, with common conduct and values. The organization focuses on self-reformation, as it believes that it serves as the first step towards making the world a better place to live for everyone. The Association serves as a platform to extend a helping hand for the benefit and service of the communities.

Since inception, about 20 years ago, the Association has been involved in varied activities in the domain of Education and Infrastructure development helping build social infrastructure. MAN MAKING

The whole journey undertaken by Srujanavani is guided and aimed at sensitizing and creating social conscious citizens for a better society for our future generations, where every citizen is aware and duly fulfills their responsibilities towards their community. Thus, try to handle the very root cause of all these ailments in the society. Regular sessions to discuss, share and mentoring is undertaken to help and guide the members to realize, learn, practice values and thus spread the message in their own circles of influence. The topics for discussion in these weekly gatherings cover and not limited to Ethics, Philosophy, Morals, Spirituality and social responsibility and these sessions are the starting points for most of our activities and initiatives to help and address the grave social problems in our near vicinity.

These ideas of self-reformation and spreading the man-making message permeates all our activities and drives them towards their intended goals making little strides towards our vision of achieving Utopian India.

4

VIDYANIDHI

Vidyanidhi is supported by many of our regular donors to help the bright students who are at the verge of dropping out of schools and colleges or discontinue their higher education owing to their financial weakness.

Under this program we invite applications for scholarships, identify bright students from the villages we work in and support them to continue their educational quest and to excel in the career paths they choose.

The selected students are financially supported, mentored, trained in communication skills, soft skills and so on regularly. The Vidyanidhi scholars are liaised with another flagship program Yuva Kiran, wherein they cater an hour a day to help the students from their own locality or village by teaching in the nearby Govt. Schools. Thus the Vidyanidhi scholars are instilled with a sense of confidence and satisfaction helping their own village. The activity has also been successful in equipping the scholars with all the necessary skills for their future career opportunity creating a win-win situation.

Govt. High school students do not have access to know about various career options. Srujanavani has initiated Career Counseling program for 10th class students. It helps the student to realize true aptitude. Students experience lot of pressure – pressure to perform academically, make a good life. The major element linked to all these is the choice of one’s career. It is a decision that is often taken under parental or societal duress. However, one must seek proper career counseling and guidance to make the right decision. Career counseling is really beneficial for students, and there are many reasons it is imperative. We have brought a booklet on “Career Paths After Class X” benefitting thousands of students.

Srujanavani Learning Center at Midhani Slums, Hyderabad

Education: New chapter of activities have started at our Hyderabad chapter 3 years ago with the start of a Learning Center at Midhani slums. This center is aimed to cater to the neglected children who dropped out of school. Our continuous efforts at the center have ripened fruits during this year with more than 20 children joining regular schools. The center currently running with the financial support of Indian Development Foundation (IDF) caters to a Vidyanidhi scholar pursuing graduation and around 30 students from the slums to get access to basic education protecting them from falling prey to non-social elements in the society.

26

The center has played a pivotal role in bringing close the community together and was instrumental in identifying more important issues like women empowerment and health & sanitation issues.

Women Empowerment: Women and adolescent girls from the community who are at bottom most part of pyramid are most vulnerable. They are daily wage earners, going for slum dwelling and construction works etc. Our plan is to help them in securing a safe and decent livelihood through Tailoring. It also pinched us when we heard some anti-social indulgence by these women just for livelihood. In order to empower them we have conducted a 4 month tailoring classes with help of external trainer.

Health and Sanitation: Living in unorganized slums with bare minimum access to facilities like toilets, sewer system and water facilities severe sanitation and health issues are seen in this community. In order to create awareness on health & sanitation and to address the immediate medical needs a free medical camp

27

was conducted in the slums with the support of Indian Development Foundation (IDF)-who provided free medicines, Seva Bharathi-who provided ambulance and 3 doctors from Owaisi Hospital. The medical camp catered to about 200 patients. An awareness session on menstrual health was also conducted with the help of a Gynecologist in the slums.

Winter Cloth Distribution

Dew drops on grass blades & the sound of dry leaves remind us that it is winter. It may be a very enjoyable weather for some people but the scenario is not the same for everyone. A large number of people who live below the poverty line, to them the touch of misery due to extreme cold is more than the touch of this beauty of nature. The shelter-less people suffer in silence from extreme cold. They cannot afford to buy winter clothes to keep themselves warm. So, to give them some warm care!

Srujanavani volunteered for distribution of winter cloths: spreading warmth and love on 10th December 2015 night.

28

Special thanks to Dr. M. S. N. Murty (Professor and HOD) Dept of Chemical Engineering, GVP College of Engineering, who has donated Rs.5000 towards the cause and also collected 15 bags of cloths from his neighbors for the event. Smt.Sridevigaru and Shahid lend their helping hands for purchasing of new blankets worth Rs.3000 which were distributed to the needy.

An overall 300 homeless people were served by this activity. Thanks to all volunteers who have worked hard to collect cloths, mend to make them fit for re- usage, make purchases of blankets, survey the areas to identify the needy and distribute them in over the night time from 9.00 PM till 1.00 AM.

Blood Donation Camp

Every year our nation requires about 5 Crore units of blood, out of which only a meager 2.5 Crore units of blood is available. The gift of blood is the gift of life. There is no substitute for human blood.

On 14 June, 2015 commemorating the World Blood Donors Day, Srujanavani organized a blood donation camp in association with A.S Raja blood bank at Srujanavani Activity Center, Z.P High School, Gopalapatnam. A total of 30 units of blood were donated by the donors on this day. After the blood donation donors were given refreshments and key chains as thank you tokens.

Attending Capacity Building Workshops and Seminars i. National Seminar on Corporate Social Responsibility - Role of NGOs conducted by BalaVikasa The companies Act 2013 has made certain category of companies to mandatory spend part of their annual profits for corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to a tune of over Rs.25,000 crores. This makes thousands of companies in India to either implement community development activities by themselves or support the initiatives of NGOs and government. Many corporate are not equipped to initiate the development activities by themselves. Therefore, they are exploring for professional and credible NGOs to partner. At the same time many NGOs are not able to explore the opportunities or meet the requirements of the corporate sector to establish partnerships. Bala Vikasa intends to fill this gap by organizing a national seminar and provide updates in CSR sector and opportunities for NGOs. Sri Y.V Tarak (CFO, Srujanavani) has attended this program to discuss on the current CSR practices, permitted activities, understanding case studies and to know about the expectation of corporate companies to partner with NGOs. ii. Video Blogging (Vlogging) Workshop, Organized by US Consulate General Videos, are an extremely powerful way to communicate messages and mobilize communities. Videos are an increasingly popular way for people to receive news online, but video duration is a big factor in people’s decision to click on a video, and/or to watch it to completion, so brevity is the key! The two-day workshop, led by Christoph Alexander Geiseler from the One Minute Academy in the U.S. focused on the one-minute video concept— the perfect approach for messaging in a world of increased focus on mobile platforms was organized by US Consulate General by their Public Affairs

35

Everything from how to use video editing software, to quick editing tips, to deciding how to cover a topic in one minute, will be covered, and the participants will have a video ready for public use at the end of the workshop. The participants will also be ready to use their new skills to make future videos quickly.
