Domaine Laroche, Chablis `St Martin` 2015
Domaine Laroche, Chablis `St Martin` 2015 PRODUCER Domaine Laroche epitomises Chablis, with impeccable quality and a remarkable 100 hectares of vineyards, including 30 hectares of Premier and six hectares of Grand Crus. Founded in 1850, there is still a dynamism which permeates everything they do. Michel Laroche merged with another family-owned producer, Jeanjean, in 2009 and he remains involved in the business, along with his wife Gwénaël. As part of their aim to retain purity and minerality in the finished wine, Laroche was the first Burgundian producer to move to screwcaps in 2002. VINEYARDS Saint Martin refers to the patron saint of Chablis, whose relics were kept in the domaine's ancient monastery for many years. Domaine Laroche owns 63 hectares of Chablis vineyard on the famous Kimmeridgian soil that gives the wines such precision. Each plot, of which there are 30 in total, has a different exposure, soil depth and vine age which contributes complexity to the wine and means that every parcel ripens at a different time. Gregory Viennois refers to Chardonnay's 'two-day window' of maturity - if the parcels aren't harvested in this time the precious Chablis aromas are lost. VINTAGE The 2015 vintage started with very good conditions during flowering, with dry and sunny weather. These conditions continued and were ideal for preventing diseases during ripening. On the morning of 1st September, a hailstorm affected the vineyards of Les Clos and Les Blanchots. This resulted in a partial loss of yield but didn’t impact the quality of the grapes due to careful sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar. -

Bardolino Doc Classico
BARDOLINO DOC CLASSICO Harvest 2019 MARCHESINI HISTORY Marcello Marchesini Winery is situated in Lazise on Lake Garda, where it keeps its roots deeply planted and breaths years of hard work, passion and true love for the vineyard. Late Grandfather ‘Nonno Plinio’, worked hard after the war and put all his savings to purchasing a tractor in order to continue working on the land of Count Cavazzocca in Lazise, just as his family had been doing for the previous 200 years. His hard work and determination paid off when in a short space of time he managed to buy for himself Count Cavazzocca’s house and his very first vineyard, the one still known today as I Santi, where the production of the grapes for Bardolino are still being cultivated. In the 80’s, Marcello, the son of Plinio took over the family business and here a new generation started a new way of producing wine. Over the years, Marcello had worked in wineries in the area and brought new ideas to the business. The vision of Nonno Plinio, who had experienced hunger, hard work and the difficulties of working on the land meaning he focused mainly on quantity was then taken over by Marcello’s new way of working on the quality of wine, leaving the idea of quantity behind him. In the new millennium the winery took a new turn when a new ‘Pink’ generation came in to give the winery a feminine touch. The winery is currently run by Marcello’s daughters; Erika and Giorgia. Giorgia is Enologist, following through the process of vinification together with her father Marcello, working both in the wine cellar and in the vines. -

Introduction Village Surveys and Appraisals have been carried out all over England since Parish Councils were recommended to do so after the reorganisation of District and Rural Councils in 1974. The'Surveys were and are seen as a means of providing valuable local information for the more distant District Councils and an opportunity for the residents of parishes and villages to get to know more about each other as well as their localities. -

June 2016 Wine Club Write.Pages
HIGHLAND FINE WINE JUNE 2016 HALF CASE - RED Domaine Landron Chartier ‘Clair Mont’ – Loire Vin de Pays, France (Mixed & Red Club) $17.99 The ‘Clair Mont’ is made up of mostly Cabernet Franc with a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. Cabernet Franc is grown all over the Loire Valley and is a parent of its more famous progeny, Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc in the Loire Valley is much lighter and fresh. The grape is early ripening and as a result has typically lower sugar levels at harvest, which producers lower alcohol wines. This wine is perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon drinkers who want lighter wines during the summer. It has all of the flavor components of Cabernet Sauvignon without the full tannins. This wine is great for grilling burgers and hotdogs or with Flank steak. Ryan Patrick Red – Columbia Valley, Washington (Mixed & Red Club) $11.99 This red is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 4% Malbec, and 1% Syrah. It is a blend typical of Columbia Valley which is known more for Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In fact Columbia Valley and Bordeaux are on roughly the same longitude, which means they have some similar climactic traits. Like Bordeaux, Columbia Valley is known for a more rounded style of red wine compared to the sun drenched wines of Napa Valley. This blend has a smooth texture with raspberry and dark cherry flavors, and has a dry, fruity finish. I like this wine with a slight chill to bring out the fruit. Calina Carmenere Reserva – Valle del Maule, Chile (Mixed & Red Club) $10.99 Carmenere has become the varietal of choice from Chile. -
