For the first time the District Census Handbook of 1961 also provides a complete list of villages with weekly markets in the district along with a district map sho\\-ing the location of such market villages. In the discussions with Shri Asok Mitra, Registrar General, it was agreed that a Monograph provIding a complete list of Weekly Markets in Maharashtra State might be brought out. Accordingly, vie have published this Monograph on Weekly Markets of Maharashtra.
