On any given sunny day it is easy to see the Lakes’ many benefits to LSU and the Baton Rouge community. More recently, you can also see how the health of the Lakes is declining, and some of the challenges that have emerged as the popularity of the Lakes and their surrounding neighborhoods have increased. Naturally, I, along with everyone on our Baton Rouge-based team, was ecstatic to learn that the LSU Foundation, LSU, the State of Louisiana, CPRA, BREC and East Baton Rouge City/Parish are stepping up to bring the Baton Rouge Lakes Master Plan to life. We followed closely the master planning process spearheaded by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and have worked with BRAF to further explore how the University Lakes can help enhance flood risk reduction benefits. Simultaneously, through our joint venture with Brailsford & Dunlavey (B&D), we have supported successful implementation of the Nicholson Gateway Development, one of LSU’s Baton Rouge campus’ most ambitious and transformative projects. For this next vital and transformative project for our region, the B&D | CSRS joint venture has assembled a team of experienced professionals who are passionate about restoring and renewing the Lakes as a major community amenity. We want to help unlock the additional benefits that the Lakes system can provide. Led by Mark Goodson, a CSRS principal and experienced planning and resilience professional, our team includes B&D, CSRS, the construction engineering firm Moffatt & Nichol and the Baton Rouge-based engineering consulting firm GOTECH. Our team provides seasoned professionals who can manage the University Lakes Project from kickoff through successful completion. Our subject matter experts stand ready to apply their expertise in any number of ways to help the LSU Real Estate and Facilities Foundation (REFF), project partners, and surrounding communities find solutions to the challenges a project such as the Lakes will present. Collectively, our team understands the critical need to restore the University Lakes system to health, and we have the experience, capacity and expertise to help REFF deliver the desired outcomes of the Project, including: • Health – A healthy lakes system serves as an important habitat in which native plants and wildlife can thrive. It provides safe and accessible recreation opportunities and connections that encourage a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lakes system helps to manage and clean stormwater, which reduces risk for the community. A healthy lakes system builds on its legacy of providing a touchpoint for people to explore in new ways Louisiana, Baton Rouge, or maybe just their own backyards. That scenic beauty can be accessible to all, and it offers value in and of itself. Its scenic beauty enhances the image of our community and the State’s flagship university every time someone enjoys the view. • Win-Win – At project completion, the Lakes will feel like a “win” for both funders and users. The funders will get maximum value for their investment, feeling confident their desired results were achieved and that their funds were spent appropriately and efficiently. Users should feel like the temporary disruptions associated with construction were well worth it, that they were kept informed and engaged, and that the result is an even better University Lakes system for them to enjoy for generations to come. Our proposal submittal demonstrates our team’s unique qualifications and capacity to support REFF in managing the University Lakes Project. While most are focused on the horserace numbers between the two, Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind expands the focus by asking likely voters not just about the current contest involving Bell, but also their preferences in a hypothetical rematch between Bell and his 1978 opponent, Democrat Bill Bradley. Beginning with how Bell fares against his current opponent, the poll finds that Booker’s lead remains formidable at 56 to 40 percent, with Booker outpacing Bell’s favorables by an almost two-to-one margin (57% versus 29%, respectively). Despite Bell’s history in New Jersey politics, voters remain unsure of their opinion of him (49%). “Since the interviews were done more than two weeks out from the election, numbers are certainly likely to change. But a lead of this magnitude is good news for the incumbent Senator,” said Krista Jenkins, director of the poll and professor of political science. “It’s not a political environment that’s particularly warm for incumbents, but it looks like Booker has little to be worried about as the campaign season draws to a close.” The same poll finds that Bell polls worse now than 35 years ago when he first ran for a New Jersey U.S. Senate seat and lost.     LSU Hilltop Arboretum Master Plan August 2017 HISTORY AND OVERVIEW Hilltop Arboretum was entrusted to Louisiana State University in 1981 as a gift from its former resident and creator, Emory Smith. Emory and his wife Annette lived a humble lifestyle at the Highland Road property for over 50 years. The land functioned as a working vegetable and livestock farm, however there is more to the story. Emory had a deep love for the plants of Louisiana and spent countless hours collecting native specimens along the Gulf Coast to grow and display on his property. He opened the farm to the public - including classes of students in landscape architecture - and provided walking trails throughout the planted ravines so as to share the enjoyment of his extensive collection. Today, under the careful guidance of the LSU Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture and the Friends of Hilltop Arboretum, Hilltop continues to carry on Emory’s legacy. Hilltop site circa 1941 MISSION The mission of the LSU Hilltop Arboretum is to provide a sanctuary where students and visitors can learn about natural systems, plants, and landscape design. SHARED VISION The LSU Hilltop Arboretum will be a nationally- recognized center for the study of plants and landscape design. Hilltop will build upon donor Emory Smith’s love for native Louisiana plants and sanctuary. Stewardship of Hilltop is shared by the LSU Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture and the Friends of Hilltop. Hilltop is an integral part of the School which uses the arboretum in its research, teaching, and service activities. Friends of Hilltop will provide education programs to engage the broader community, operational support, and fundraising activities.

The results of this study demonstrate that Dr. Hector P. Garcia was a transformational and servant leader who used charismatic and authentic communication to build a relationship with followers. These findings illustrate how Dr. Garcia used different tools of persuasion such as ethos, logos, pathos, and civic spaces to deliver and engage in communication with his followers.

One man decided to explain the problem with edu- cation. He argued, What’s a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher? To stress his point he said to another guest, You’re a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make? Bonnie paused, then said, You want to know what I make? I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class when their parents can’t make them sit for five without an iPod. She took a deep breath. You want to know what I make? I make kids wonder. I make them question. I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions. I teach them to write and then I make them write. I make them read, read, read. I make them show all of their work in math. I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity.
