Exempt from the decreases are the three races that comprise the Aug. 21 International Festival of Racing-- the GI Arlington Million, GI Beverly D. S. and GI Sec- retariat S. AIn order to maintain sup- port for current Arlington Park overnight purses, arlingtonpark.com it became neces- sary to make these adjustments to the stakes program,@ said Arlington Park President Roy Arnold. AWhile lowering purses is never easy, we want to do our best to provide as healthy an overnight purse structure as possible for the horsemen who stable on our grounds and support our program on a daily basis. These adjustments will allow us to retain current purse levels.@ The track received the approval of its p[lan from the Board of Directors of the Illinois Thor- oughbred Horsemen=s Association. AWe are hopeful that we have seen the worst in the way of handle at Arlington Park for the season and we hope that things will improve as the season progresses,@ said ITHA Presi- dent Mike Campbell.
