Big History Junior HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE TIMELINE DISPLAY
Suggestions for displaying your History of the Universe Timeline in your classroom: • Print out each of the following pages on A4 or even A3 if you have a large display area. You may choose to print on paper and then laminate, or print on card or heavy photo paper. • Use the “Big History Junior: History of the Universe Timeline” page as a heading above, or at the beginning of, the timeline. • Arrange the coloured boxes with the dates in the correct order in the space you have available. It does not need to be to scale but it would be preferable to roughly show the distance and proximity of events. For example, there should be a significant distance between ‘The Big Bang’ and ‘Earth Formed’ whereas ‘First Humans’ and ‘Today’ would be comparatively close to each other. • You could choose to place each of the ‘Events’ on display at the beginning of the course. However, it would be preferable to ask students where to place ‘Events’ on the timeline as you come to them throughout the course. • You may add other ‘Events’ to your classroom timeline. For example, you could add the extinction of the dinosaurs at 65 million years ago. You may also like to encourage students to bring in pictures or information on ‘Events’ which could be added to the timeline.
