Amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits Community amiibo tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits Community Discussions Brandon Weave88 02/20/2016 9:53 PM t Event Closed Let's talk about Amiibo I got into Amiibo collecting late in 2014. Since then I've amassed over 30 Amiibo. I got to a point where I knew I wasn't going to collect every one and had to start drawing lines to curb my collection habit. Here are 3 rules I've set for myself: E Yeah! e 8 r 78 D Advertisement Share this Post 2 Share Embed Comment Brandon 02/20/2016 9:57 PM 1. If an Amiibo comes in different colors (Gold/Silver/Standard) I'll only get one of them. 2. If I don't own a game their compatible with I won't collect a set. Examples of this would be the Splatoon amd Animal Crossing sets. 3. I refuse to keep them in their boxes and try my hardest to avoid scalpers. E Yeah! e 0 D Brandon 02/20/2016 10:01 PM Have any of you guys gotten in to collecting Amiibo? If so are you going for every one, just certain sets, or are you creating your own subsets (Zelda, Fire Emblem ect.)? E Yeah! e 0 D Ray 02/20/2016 10:15 PM 30 amiibo!? I have none, but am thinking of getting the Wolf Link one with Twilight Princess HD. Either that or Toon Link. Otherwise, the Smash ones and beyond don't really interest me. E Yeah!? e 3 D Brandon 02/20/2016 10:26 PM It's a problem... I also purchase in waves. I'll go through a period where I buy 3 or 4 and then don't for a while. E Yeah! e 1 D Stagger 02/20/2016 11:01 PM I have all of the LoZ related ones and Shulk. My Ganondorf and Toon Link are still in the box, but that's only because I haven't had a use for them ... which will change next month. I just recently finished my subset when a used Sheik came in to the store. I've considered trying to track down a Samus or getting her Zero Suit version. It sunds like they'll have an application in Federation Force. E Yeah! e 3 JohnnyTLP 02/21/2016 12:06 AM I haven't gotten any Amiibo, personally. I was going to get a few for Smash 4 at one point, but, as I got out of the Smash 4 scene soon after that, I never got around to it. E Yeah! e 2 Jade 02/21/2016 12:55 AM I've got the 3 Splatoon pack, yarn yoshi, Ike, and Zero Suit Samus. I have 6 amiibos. E Yeah! e 1 D Elzonire 02/21/2016 1:30 AM I haven't found a use for a single amiibo yet. Unless Zelda U does something GENIUS with them (Genius, not cheap), then I might get one! E Yeah! e 1 Justin86 02/21/2016 7:04 AM I have 20 at the moment. They are all from the SSB series. I really found no interest in collecting any other series amiibo like SMB or Animal Crossing, but I'll soon have my first one with Wolf Link. I was able to get all the Zelda amiibo, and looking forward to putting Ganondorf to work in TPHD. E Yeah! e 1 D Blake 02/21/2016 7:04 AM Hmm... I have Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Link, Toon Link, and Inkling Boy. I think Yoshi and Mario were gifts. I got Link day one along with Sm4sh and purchased Luigi to round out my cast, and I got Toon Link because he's currently my favorite video game character with an amiibo. The only ones I might consider getting at this point would be Yarn Yoshi, Modern Pixel Mario, and/or the Inkling Girl. E Yeah! e 1 D Blake 02/21/2016 7:09 AM I doubt I'll buy any of them myself, but I have a family that loves overwhelming the youngest generation with overly generous gift giving come birthdays and Christmas. I'm not impressed with their functionality yet, but they look really cool. They suffer from the "can't have too much content locked behind them, but also can't be a ripoff price" paradox. SMM finds a way around this best. E Yeah! e 3 D Brandon 02/21/2016 9:18 AM I'll admit that the content behind them is lacking. Mario Maker and Mario Kart 8 had decent content. I don't mind content locked behind them for the most part because I'm okay with buying them but I do see how it can be unfair for those who don't collect. I guess the balance would be offering locked content for a reduced price for those who don't collect them. At this point I don't think most E Yeah! e 0 D Brandon 02/21/2016 9:18 AM people are buying them for the content they unlock. Part of the reason I have problems with people leaving them in their packaging and not actually using them is because of this. E Yeah! e 1 D Blake 02/21/2016 10:36 AM I personally see MK8 and SMM as the best uses of amiibo. TPHD's compatability with amiibo looks amazing, a perfect balance of not punishing penny-pinching completionists while giving those willing to splurge a worthwhile gameplay feature. ...Except for the Wolf Link figure. I really hope it's going to be obtainable at MSRP a while after release, but I doubt it will. E Yeah! e 3 D Jade 02/21/2016 11:27 AM who has a pac man amiibo!? E Yeah! e 2 D Brandon 02/21/2016 11:37 AM @Jade. I have one. E Yeah! e 0 D Ray 02/21/2016 11:43 AM Well, I would say the Wolf Link amiibo and the Splatoon amiibo have the highest amount of content associated with them in a single game than any other amiibo. But I also really think costumes are quite irrelevant things to pay for in games, so I don't consider them the best uses of amiibo either. So I'm curious now, Blake, what do you think of Smash Bros.'s use of amiibo? E Yeah! e 0 D Jade 02/21/2016 11:50 AM ike? E Yeah! e 1 D Blake 02/21/2016 12:15 PM Smash? It's a nice gimmick, but I honestly wouldn't recommend buying more than one, if that. They didn't appear to have that much depth, but then again, I never really used them long enough to find out. E Yeah! e 2 D Brandon 02/21/2016 1:28 PM Smash was alright, but at the end of the day training Amiibo gets old. I thought Captain Toad's use of the Toad Amiibo was a nice addition. Added an extra element to the game that if I wasn't into Amiibo wouldn't have minded missing out on. E Yeah! e 2 D Blooky Bae 02/21/2016 4:37 PM I have 16 I bought 3 today! E Yeah! e 1 D JohnnyTLP 02/21/2016 5:02 PM I was more interested in the fact that Amiibo apparently learned your fighting style and developed tactics to counter them. It sounded like that would be a great way to improve any flaws your strategies have. Granted, like I said, I got out of Smash 4 before I could actually confirm if that line of thought held merit. E Yeah! e 2 Brandon 02/21/2016 5:41 PM I've been meaning to play more Smash and use my Amiibo more. I used to have friends that I would play it with regularly but I've since moved and it's hard to find people to game with. E Yeah! e 1 D Tabi 02/22/2016 3:54 PM I have been looking for the Rosalina amiibo. I thought someone mentioned that it was a Target exclusive. But everytime I go there, they don't have any! They have a lot of inklings and Peach. Lol. E Yeah! e 0 D Brandon 02/22/2016 4:48 PM @Tabi, I ordered Rosalina from Japan, cost me 20$ but it was better than paying 40$ for one in the United States. E Yeah! e 2 D Stagger 02/22/2016 6:44 PM The Link amiibo's use in Hyrule Warriors was awesome. A whole new weapon? That's heavy content. The Shulk amiibo's use in Xenoblade Chronicles 3d was tacked on but awfully helpful. It was a rough model gallery and jukebox to fill otherwise ... I understand the concern about Wolf Link for those who are late to the game, but come on ... it's ten bucks extra for the bundle, and it's still available. E Yeah! e 2 Brandon 02/22/2016 7:48 PM Also it's much cheaper on Amazon. I paid 47.99 for the Amiibo Bundle. And the Wolf Link Amiibo is a pretty cool looking collectors item. E Yeah! e 0 D Tabi 02/23/2016 12:02 PM I preordered Twilght Princess HD from Gamestop. I know some people are upset about the wolf amiibo being included in a remastered bundle. But since I never played the original TP, it was a win-win for me. E Yeah! e 0 D zane 02/24/2016 9:08 PM i have 20 amiibo E Yeah! e 0 D Ryan 02/26/2016 6:11 PM ...surprisingly i have 70 amiibo.

  • Nintendo's Leak
Rumor: Smash Bros. roster leaks; you can finally shoot the Duck Hunt dog Convincing video footage shows Bowser Jr., Xenoblade protagonist as new fighters. Sam Machkovech - 8/25/2014, 2:29 PM NeoGAF The next entries in the Super Smash Bros. fighting franchise, a 3DS/Wii U duo with separate (and partly unknown) release dates, has seen its roster of fan-favorite characters expand in drips of one or two character announcements at a time for years now. That promotional slow-drip may have finally run out, however, thanks to a mix of questionable screenshots and convincing video footage that surfaced on enthusiast forum NeoGAF in recent days. The videos, which were uploaded [and promptly deleted by way of Nintendo copyright claim] on Monday and focused on the 3DS edition of the next Smash Bros., contained appearances from previously unannounced characters Bowser Jr.—piloting the flying clown-face pod that first appeared in Super Mario World—and Shulk, the spiky-haired, JRPG-cliche protagonist from the Nintendo-published Xenoblade Chronicles. These videos appeared to confirm leaked information that surfaced as early as last Wednesday, including a full roster screenshot that contained, among other characters, the dog from NES classic Duck Hunt. If true, this would be the first time the annoying, laughing pooch would be directly controllable in a Nintendo game, though you could actually shoot the mongrel in his grinning face if you tracked down a Vs. Duck Hunt arcade machine. That supposed full-character roster screenshot also included returning Smash faves like Earthbound protagonist Ness, classic Nintendo mascot R.O.B., and Star Fox sidekick Falco.
