Motorsport Update The new year brings big changes for the V8 Supercar season with new manufacturers joining the pack. However, I am confident there will still be plenty of Holden v Ford action and it will be stronger than ever. Two Teams will Shine in 2013 - The Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander and James Courtney will come out fighting. - Tekno Autosport’s Jonathon Webb made a great impact on the 2012 V8 Supercar season. He also will come out fighting in 2013 in a Car of the Future! Predictions for 2013 - HRT’s James Courtney will win multiple podium places during 2013. - TEKNO Autosport’s Jonathon Webb will win multiple podium places during 2013. I hope James and Jono read this! No pressure at all, just make the podium or I am going to look like a goose and yes I can just imagine your thoughts on my ‘goose’ comment! We are looking forward to the 2013 V8 Supercar season and the new round which will be held in Texas. We would like to the following drivers who attended Club events during 2012: - Holden Racing Team and Walkinshaw Racing - James Courtney, Cameron McConville, Nick Percat and Russell Ingall. - Tekno Autosports - Jonothan Webb and Michael Patrizi. Alexandre the Great Great isn’t a word that would have been used to describe Alex Prémat’s debut 2012 V8 Supercars season. B Page 1 of 40 EDITORSPEAK… email: [email protected] Woohoo, motorsport time again, even if the look to our FAE Winter Series is a little different to normal as we observe the protocols that Level 2 imposes on us. It’s racing, but not as we know it Jim!! As a club it’s great to be able to kick start our core business and to engage again with our competitors and wonderful V-Force. Please bear with us though as we work through the new system, as the changes we have had to make to allow racing to go ahead do require a different mindset from you the competitor, from online entry only, to contactless scrutineering and documentation and of course social distancing within Manfeild: Circuit Chris Amon, plus no driver helpers and no public. BUT, we get to go racing!! The fallout within worldwide motorsport from the Covid-19 pandemic will take quite some time to overcome, with most series now looking to the 2021 season, and a big question mark remaining over the viability of many teams and indeed the long term sustainability of some events. We are, I guess, lucky that the impact in NZ seems to have been relatively restricted and much of the local scene will be able to pick up where they left off in March. It will probably be next year before things are back to a BC normal here, but from what I’ve heard most competitors are keen to support the events that are being offered. Let’s hope so and let’s hope Level 1 is not too far away.

B Manawatu Car Club Inc Magazine December 2020 Page 1 of 52 EDITORSPEAK… email: [email protected] November has been hectic, from both a personal and work view, so I can only apologize that the magazine is a little later than usual. It is my fault entirely. The stress involved with finally selling our property in Auckland and organizing making the big move back to the Manawatu happen at the end of November (without a home to go to as I write) has just added to the pressure of being busy at work. I didn’t realize just how much “stuff” we had accumulated, all of which needed to be moved somewhere, although a very thorough cull went on and rest assured most of it wasn’t car related!! Plus, we have been trying to work out how to deal with the animals which we want to bring down. Add in some rather awkward buyers and the stress levels have been pretty high. Uncertainty ahead, hell no, only opportunities if I can open my eyes wide enough to see them!! Although I worked at the yard the weekend of the MG Classic meeting, I did make it over to the circuit on Sunday (my first time at this meeting for some years) to support Ian who was racing his XR8. And what a great meeting it was. Beautiful weather, a huge grid of Central Muscle cars, in fact BIG grids in every class, and superb racing, with MCC members featuring prominently. There are certainly some stunning race cars out there and even a wander through the carpark found some gems.
