Interested in Middle School Band?

Thanks for your interest in Band at Midwest City Middle School. Band is a great opportunity for students to make the most of their time in Middle School. Band students learn music, how to play their instrument, and have a lot of fun. Band also teaches responsibility, teamwork, and reinforces math and reading skills.

Band is a year long elective that can be taken in Middle School and High School. At MCMS, 6th grade students have two elective hours. Students may choose one of the year long electives like band, and still choose 2 of the half year (.5) elective class in various subjects. 6th Grade is the very best time to try band. Starting band in later years is much more difficult.

What is Band Like?

 Band is a different class. Students get hands-on instruction on their instrument and learn to make music by themselves and in a group.  Band students get to participate in lots of special activities like sporting events, assemblies, contests, and trips just for fun!  Band students form friendships that last all the way through High School.

Can I be in Band If… ?

 I really want to take another elective. Band is a year-long class, but you still have another elective hour which can include 2 half-year (.5) classes.  I play sports. Yes, Middle School students can participate in several activities. We work with the coaches to make sure students can be in both.  I don’t have an instrument or a lot of money. Yes, we have a limited number of instruments that can be used for a small fee. There are some costs to be in band, but we are very flexible and can find solutions to most problems.

Saxophone- Baritone/Tuba– Modern Lowest sound. sounding Used with instrument. popular Foundation of music and the band! jazz band.

Percussion – Must learn many instruments including drum and bells. Must have good rhythm.
