I have heard many people say they cannot believe Lent is already here, but when you look at when Ash Wednesday can land (as early as February 04 and as late as March 10) it is not an early Lent. Since Lent is a penitential season, perhaps it is typical for us to “not be ready.” Have you thought of how you will set aside your everyday, normal routine and embrace Lent? The church encourages us to fast, pray, and give alms. Don’t let Lent get away from you; be sure to enter into this beautiful season and encounter Christ in every step. We have a few ways to encourage you on the journey over the next 40 days — Attend Daily Mass; Pray before the Blessed Sacrament in Adoration on Tuesdays; Attend Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 7 pm — thank you to SAINT WENCESLAUS Deacon Stockert and Deacon Zent for leading the Stations; Women are CATHOLIC CHURCH encouraged to sign up and participate in the Lenten Book Club; All parishioners are invited to pick up and read a (free) copy of 7 Secrets of Confession. The timeline functions as a chronology, a work of art, a permanent open textbook, and a gigantic photo album covering a hundred years in the life of the community of physicists and the existence of the American Physical Society . Each of the eleven posters begins with a brief essay that places a major scientific achievement of the decade in its historical context. Large portraits of the essays’ subjects include youthful photographs of Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, and Richard Feynman among others, to help put a face on science. Below the essays, a total of over 130 individual discoveries and inventions, explained in dated text boxes with accompanying images, form the backbone of the timeline. For ease of comprehension, this wealth of material is organized into five color- coded story lines the stretch horizontally across the hundred years of the 20th century.
