Our department is certainly working very hard to protect children and staff members, so glad I work for the Department for Education. I believe we have everything in place that can be at this time and we are following all recommendations made by our department. Students attending are happy and relaxed and with your on-going support, I am sure this will continue.

LEARNING RESOURCES If you would like further resources to support your child while he/she is in isolation, please click on the following link Our Learning SA . This is a resource established by our department to support student learning both at school and home. Depending on future decisions about schools being open, we may need to develop a range of other protocols to support students and their learning. We will keep you informed about this.

CANTEEN Unfortunately, our Canteen will stop operating today. With the number of absences this week, there have not been enough orders to make the canteen viable. Although the Canteen is a non-profit organization, it does need to take enough orders to pay the employees. The other issue is we do not want student lining up for food and being in close proximity to each other. The Canteen is managed by the Governing council and the Governing Council Chairperson – Stephen Garrett, is supportive of this measure.

YARD BEHAVIOUR SURVEY In weeks 7/8 we conducted a yard behaviour survey. No student reported ANY CASES OF BULLYING during any break times over that time. Some children did not enjoy either a recess or lunch because they fell and hurt themselves; could not find a friend or were bored. The issues raised provided us with both class and whole school direction so we can address the issues raised through social skills programmes and new lunchtime activities term.

STUDENT CORNER

In Week 3 we had a visit from Olympian Rachel Sporn. She talked to us about never giving up and having a positive mind set. When she was younger in her childhood she talked to us about her inspiration to go to the Olympics. She said when she was younger she was watching the Olympics on tv one day and she saw this female runner and that was what inspired her. Then she talked to us about her basketball career. She stated that she played in the WNBL for Adelaide Lightening when she first started playing basket- ball. Then she progressed playing basketball for an Olympian team called The Opals. Then she went on to telling us that she met Guy Sebastian and she showed us a photo of her and Guy.

Overall it was a very great experience for all of us. I personally enjoyed her visit because I play basketball and she is a sports person I aspire to be. I also enjoyed it because she gave us some tips for achieving your goals, one of the tips she told us was always have a positive and growth mindset and never give up if you don’t succeed try, try, try and failure is key to success. She also got to have the torch that they light at the start of the Olympics.
