Happy New Year to all of you. I hope each of you enjoyed a wonderful holiday season, in which you had the opportunity to spend quality time together with your families.

One of the nice things about our Christmas religious celebrations is that we once again hear the story of Jesus’ family. We recall the story of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. We read about visits from shepherds and three wise men. We listen with wonderment of how this new family had to run for lives, to Egypt. Jesus, like us, had a family. In addition he had friends, he had chores to do, he learned the carpenter trade from his father. In many ways he was a lot like us, even though he lived many years ago.

Soon we will be welcoming new scouts and their families into our troop, into our scouting family. We must make them feel welcome. They have stories to tell us, just as we have our own stories to share with them. We must not forget that we all started where they are. We have a fantastic troop, celebrating 5o years this year. Just like we have become part of the history of our troop, so also, will they in their own way make us grow even better. We ask Jesus, to bless us, our families, our leaders; so like he did “By we may grow in grace, age and wisdom. persevera ~Deacon Michael Thomas, Parish Scout Chaplain nce, study, and eternal Eagle Scout Corner desire, Congratulations to Rob Duff, scouts would be unable to real- any man Troop 452’s newest Eagle ize advancements within the Scout. New with this scout election cycle, the boys will appoint/elect a Patrol Quartermaster. This Patrol Quartermaster will be responsible for making sure all Patrol equipment and supplies are clean, in good working order, and ac- counted for in the patrol boxes. They will report to the Troop Quartermaster with any needs, repairs, etc. The Equipment Committee, led by Mrs. Marianne Gallivan, have spent countless hours making sure the equipment Is etched with the patrol number, and consumable supplies in place. Each patrol is responsible for their equipment and must let the Troop Quartermaster know if they are in need of additional consumable supplies. Failure to do so, will result in that patrol doing without those supplies. Remember, the Boy is, “Be Prepared.” If equipment is missing or broken, it is the responsibility of all the scouts within the Patrol to repair or replace the equipment (normal wear and tear not withstanding). Scouts need to make sure they know where their equipment is at all times, and keep it clean and tidy. If they do not know how to use equipment, it is their responsibil- ity to seek out leadership to learn how to properly use and store the equipment. We want to make sure there is working equipment for all the scouts, for many years to come.
