    INTRODUÇÃO Este trabalho de projecto, intitulado “Proposta de Criação e Programação do Centro de Interpretação Luís de Camões em Macau”, incide nos valores patrimoniais associados à permanência do poeta português naquele território, os quais se materializam no bem cultural designado por “Gruta de Camões”. Este monumento, que se encontra no interior do Jardim Luís de Camões daquela cidade, é constituído por três grandes penedos em forma de dólmen, os quais abrigam um busto em bronze do poeta, da autoria do escultor Bordalo Pinheiro. Terá sido neste local que, alegadamente, o vate terá permanecido por um período de dois anos - no Século XVI - e onde terá redigido, parcialmente, aquela que é considerada como uma das obras-primas da literatura, Os Lusíadas. Embora a questão da sua estadia se revista de alguma polémica e tenha motivado ao longo dos tempos discussões infindáveis e inconclusivas entre investigadores, académicos e entusiastas da temática camoniana, uns afirmando que se trata de um facto histórico, outros relegando o episódio para a categoria de mito, lenda e/ou tradição, a sua relevância histórica e cultural constitui um facto incontestável. Por conseguinte, aquela determinou as diversas transformações que foram operadas no monumento (e a sua própria classificação enquanto tal), a partir do Século XVIII e que se alargaram, gradualmente e em diversos períodos, à área envolvente: à Casa Garden, palacete que integrava a propriedade onde se encontrava a Gruta e ao próprio jardim. Por outro lado, essa significância histórica e cultural foi também responsável pela valorização da carga simbólica do monumento – que desempenha um papel fundamental para a comunidade macaense e portuguesa residente -, a qual foi fortalecida com a romagem cívica aos penedos de Camões, instituída a 10 de Junho de 1923 pelo Governador Rodrigo Rodrigues.
