Boxing Day is celebrated in Canada as well as England, Australia, New Zealand and other former British commonwealth countries on Dec. 26. Boxing Day gets some of its roots from the Middle Ages, when members of the upper class would take boxes, fi ll them with food and fruits, and give them to their servants and hired help who were forced to work on Christmas. Churches would also open their collection boxes to the poor on this day. Today, the giving of boxes includes fi lling boxes with food and clothing for the needy and performing volunteer work. Monetary gifts to charity are also common. Because Boxing Day is not typically cel- ebrated in the United States we’ve taken our pen and paper to the streets to ask bystanders what they think Boxing Day is. Names have been omitted to protect the innocent…and confused. Q: “What is Boxing Day?” A: “It’s a day where you can punch someone and not get in trouble.” A: “When you put away all your Christmas stuff in boxes.” A: “It celebrates some kind of rebellion in China.” A: “It’s the day after Christmas and… That’s all I know, I remember a guy was telling me about it and then for some reason he sang the Canadian National Anthem. Is it a Canadian thing?” Q: “How would you celebrate Boxing Day?” A: “I would buy pink boxing gloves.” A: “Have a party and a barbeque and watch the boxing game.” A: “Box someone; yep just punch ‘em in the face.” In the spirit of Boxing Day, now that everyone knows what it is and certainly what it isn’t, we invite you today to box up your older items to make way for the new ones, and donate generously to Good- will industries. All donations go to fund Goodwill’s employment and job training programs that benefi t thousands of people, many with disabilities, to reach their fullest potential through the power of work. You can drop off your donations at the following Goodwill locations: 1731 Chester Avenue, 1115 Olive Drive, 6051-A White Lane, 3025 Coffee Road, 9935 Rosedale Highway, 2671-E Oswell Street, 301 Espee Street or 4901 Stine Road CONDORS STATS as of 12.18.08 Name GP G A PTS +/- PIM PPG SHG Pt/G PIMPG * 10 Matt Pope F 22 13 9 22 0 30 5 1 1 1.36 27 Chad Painchaud RW 25 5 15 20 -9 30 2 0 0.8 1.2 15 Dave Bonk C 15 6 10 16 0 10 3 0 1.07 0.67 32 Mike Wirll (total) RW 17 3 12 15 -11 12 1 1 0.88 0.71 9 Andrew Ianiero F 25 7 6 13 -3 20 2 0 0.52 0.8 12 Brett Pilkington (total) C 20 2 11 13 -7 2 1 0 0.65 0.1 4 Martin Frechette D 18 5 4 9 -1 30 3 0 0.5 1.67 25 Ryan Mahrle (total) D 21 2 7 9 0 10 1 0 0.43 0.48 20 Charlie Kronschnabel RW 25 2 6 8 -8 21 0 1 0.32 0.84 * 11 Dale Reinhardt F 18 2 5 7 -6 8 0 1 0.39 0.44 5 Tyler Scott D 20 2 5 7 -4 10 2 0 0.35 0.5 * 2 Chris Kaufman D 16 1 6 7 -3 16 1 0 0.44 1 * 14 Tylor Michel F 19 1 4 5 -5 29 0 0 0.26 1.53 * 8 Sean Hurley D 24 1 4 5 -10 14 0 0 0.21 0.58 22 Liam Huculak RW 19 2 2 4 -6 69 0 0 0.21 3.63 55 Kevin Truelson D 7 2 1 3 -3 4 2 0 0.43 0.57 * 6 Tom Morrow D 22 0 3 3 1 32 0 0 0.14 1.45 7 Scott Balan D 23 0 3 3 -9 56 0 0 0.13 2.43 24 Bobby Bolt LW 11 0 1 1 -5 23 0 0 0.09 2.09 * 36 Nick Pernula F 2 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 1 44 Yutaka Fukufuji G 4 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Name GP Mins GA Shutouts Avg.
