CollegianThis is how college is meant to be. Scholar, Teacher, Mentor: Trudier Harris Returns Home By Kelli Wright Coming home at the end of a long journey is a theme that DR. TRUDIER HARRIS has contemplated, taught, and writ- ten about many times in her award-winning books and in the classroom. Recently, Harris found herself in the midst of her own home- coming, the central character in a narrative that is a familiar part of southern life and literature. When she retired from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was the J. Carlyle Sitterson Professor of English, she was not looking for other work. But her homecoming resulted in an unexpected “sec- ond career” as a professor in the College’s Department of English and a chance to explore new intellectual territories. In addition, it has meant a return to many of the places of her youth, this time in the role of change agent. Raised on an 80-acre cotton farm in Greene County, Ala., Harris was the sixth of nine children. Though her parents had to work hard to make ends meet, they always stressed the impor- tance of education. Harris attended Tuscaloosa’s 32nd Avenue Elementary School, now known as Martin Luther King Elementary School. In the late 1960s she entered Stillman College in Tuscaloosa. Initially she considered a career as a physical educa- tion teacher or a psychiatrist. But losing an intramural race to a young woman who was half as tall as she dampened her desire to teach PE, and the realization that she did not want to listen to people’s problems soured her plans in psychiatry.

  • Outlasting the Gay Revolution : 8 Principles for Long-Term Cultural
PRAISE FOR OUTLASTING THE GAY REVOLUTION In this remarkable book, Dr. Michael Brown reports on the “culture wars” with lucid, graphic clarity. He rigorously documents the complex issues driving the conflict. And more importantly, he calls Christians to hope and perseverance, and persuasively argues against caving in to pessimism. As Dr. Brown reminds us, the tired and tiresome appeal to “the right side of history” proves nothing. Rather, the question to ask is whether one is on the right side of God’s truth. In sum, this is an invaluable resource to understand these critical issues, and shows how God intervenes, and prevails, in the affairs of men. – GARY MCCALEB, CHIEF SOLICITOR, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION, ALLIANCE DEFENDING FREEDOM Dr. Brown provides one of the most powerful, persuasive, and prophetic Christian voices worldwide. In Outlasting the Gay Revolution, Dr. Brown offers the perfect balance of Christ’s truth with His unending love. Dr. Brown fearlessly confronts, head on, the most pressing cultural issues of today with a fearless approach that leaves those in rebellion against God no wiggle room to rationalize. We are left understanding evil as evil and good as good. – MATT BARBER, ASSOC. DEAN AND LAW PROFESSOR, LIBERTY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW Outlasting the Gay Revolution is a clarion call for positive change in order to understand the radical left’s efforts to 2 remake society which, like other false dogmas that have fallen into the waste baskets of history, are ultimately doomed because those who truly believe in G-d’s commandments and work to achieve His plan on earth shall succeed.

The City of New York Department of Investigation 80 MAIDEN LANE Release #22-2016 NEW YORK, NY 10038 nyc.gov/html/doi 212-825-5900 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: DIANE STRUZZI THURSDAY, JULY 14, 2016 NICOLE TURSO (212) 825-5931 DOI ISSUES FINDINGS ON THE CITY’S REMOVAL OF THE DEED RESTRICTION AT 45 RIVINGTON STREET IN MANHATTAN --Investigation finds a lack of accountability within and between DCAS and City Hall and significant communication failures-- The New York City Department of Investigation (“DOI”) issued a Report today finding that City officials allowed the removal of the deed restriction at 45 Rivington Street (Rivington) in Manhattan, opening the door for the sale of the former not-for-profit nursing home site to a private developer of luxury condominiums. DOI’s investigation found that City Hall was both aware of and involved in the deliberations to remove the deed restriction and failed to stop it. As part of its investigation, DOI reviewed thousands of City documents and records, and interviewed 50 individuals, including the Mayor and other high-level City officials from City Hall and the agencies with a role in the deed restriction removal process, specifically the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (“DCAS”), the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services (“MOCS”), and the Law Department (“Law”). The investigation found a lack of accountability within City government regarding the deed restriction removal process and significant communication failures between and within City Hall and DCAS. Copies of the Report and Appendix are attached to this release and are posted at this link: http://www.nyc.gov/html/doi/html/doireports/public.shtml VillageCare purchased 45 Rivington St.
