Veinte años después de su edición original, sigue OTROS MUNDOS siendo una novela que no ha perdido para nada su vigencia, tal vez TORRE OSCURA porque el terreno de lo fantástico parece encantar al público de todas las generaciones. A FONDO IMPRESIONES El film aprovecha la pasión popular por el equipo de béisbol Boston Red Sox (reciente campeón) y cuenta una típica historia de amor en tono de INFORME comedia, en la que los enredos románticos se suman a la fiebre que OTROS MUNDOS despierta el mencionado deporte. King, un reconocido fan del equipo, aparece en una secuencia realizando el primer lanzamiento de la bola, de TORRE OSCURA manera simbólica. NO-FICCIÓN Como curiosidad, cabe mencionar que el cine vuelve a unir al escritor de FICCIÓN Maine con la actriz Drew Barrymore, quien de niña protagonizó dos films LECTORES basados en relatos de King: Firestarter (Llamas de Venganza) y Cat's Eye (Los Ojos del Gato). CONTRATAPA Fever Pitch fue escrita por Lowell Ganz y Babaloo Mandel, basándose en la novela de Nick Hornby. Los directores fueron Bobby y Peter Farrelly. LA TORRE OSCURA VI: CANCIÓN DE SUSANNAH El 13 de mayo saldrá a la venta en España el sexto volumen de la saga de La Torre Oscura, en castellano. Canción de Susannah contendrá 496 páginas y será editado por Plaza & Janés, en tapas duras, con un precio que rondará los 22 euros. La gacetilla de prensa presenta un breve resumen de la historia: "Próxima a su desenlace, prosigue la serie de La Torre Oscura, donde reencontramos a Susannah, que ha sigo poseída por la malvada Mia y conducida a Nueva York. Lleva un niño en su vientre, pero no es de su pareja... Todos los personajes cruciales de la serie confluirán en Nueva York, donde se encuentra el rosal que custodia la Torre. Entre otras genialidades, esta entrega introduce al propio Stephen King como personaje". Esperemos que en Argentina no se edite en dos volúmenes, como sucedió con La Torre Oscura V: Lobos del Calla. SONG OF SUSANNAH A partir del 5 de abril se puso a la venta en Estados Unidos la edición en rústica de The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah. El precio es de 16,95 dólares y contiene 432 páginas. Incluye todas las ilustraciones de Darrel Anderson. LISEY'S STORY El moderador del sitio oficial de Stephen King en Internet comentó que el futuro libro Lisey's Story (que se supone será uno de los próximos trabajos a editarse) tendrá una extensión que rondará entre las 500 y 600 páginas. ACERCA DE LOVECRAFT En el libro H. P. Lovecraft: Against the World, Against Life, de Michel Houellebecq, donde se analiza la obra de este genio del terror, se incluirán comentarios de Stephen King, a modo de introducción. El libro lo publicará en mayo la editorial McSweeney's, y contendrá 150 páginas. Parte de dicho ensayo formó parte de un artículo publicado el 17 de abril en el periódico Los Angeles Times, con el título Horror, He Wrote. GHOST BROTHERS OF DARKLAND COUNTY Hay nueva información sobre el proyecto que reúne a Stephen King con el músico John Mellencamp. La obra se llamará Ghost Brothers of Darkland County y, al respecto, dijo el rockero: "Es una obra teatral dramática con música, no lo llamaría un musical. El ya escribió cientos de 4 páginas de diálogo y yo tengo 15 canciones. Son como 5 horas de duración. Tenemos que ver como darle forma, qué partes recortar. Estaremos haciendo algunas pruebas con actores en New York, a ver que sale de todo esto". Debido a que gran parte de la obra tiene lugar en los años '40, en Louisiana y Mississippi, las canciones son mayoritariamente de blues y jazz, pero no de rock. TOCANDO LA GUITARRA En un recital de John Mellencamp que tuvo lugar en el Freedom Hall de Kentucky, Stephen King participó en la canción Pink Houses, tocando la guitarra. Es conocida la amistad que une al escribor con el músico desde que ambos trabajan juntos en el proyecto de una obra teatral musical. PREMIOS BRAM STOKER Ya se conocen las nominaciones en las distintas categorías para los premios Bram Stoker 2004, que anualmente entrega la HWA (Horror's Writer Association). INTRODUCTION Filmmakers must properly credit an author when they adapt the author's work into a film.1 Most litigation occurs when an au- thor is improperly credited or not credited in a film or its advertis- ing.2 Authors may sue under section 43(a) of the Lanham Act when an erroneous credit is used.3 In King v. Innovation Books,4 the Second Circuit decided whether an author can disassociate himself from a film that is based upon his work. In King, author Stephen King sued under section 43(a) to en- join the use of his name in credits for a film based on his short story.5 The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed the issuance of a preliminary injunction prohibiting King's name from being used in the film's possessory credits.

    PETER STRAUB: PICTURES IN THE FIRE By John Tibbetts NYC 2011 He knew that the street with its rising lawns and tall elms was only a picture over the face of a terrible fire. —Peter Straub, “In the Realm of Dreams” The secret that resides in the life and work of the man who has written some of the darkest, most complex, and most disturbing tales of literary horror (he staunchly defends the genre), is that Peter Straub is a kind, generous, and sensitive man, esteemed among his peers and would-be writers alike. Moreover, he’s funny. He smiles a lot. Take that as you please. I think it might be the most authentically enigmatic thing about him. I’ve come to interview Peter at his five-story townhouse on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on a bright sunny day in late May. Peter Straub is a big man, over six feet, sturdily built, with a round face that irrepressibly breaks into quick bursts of laughter. The night before, he had given a public reading of a new story at a Manhattan bookstore, “The Ballad of Ballard and Sandrine” (it appears in issue 56 [2011] of the literary journal, Conjunctions).
