16th FINA World Championships July 24 - August 9, 2015 WU MINXIA AND SHI TINGMAO OF CHINA GRAB GOLD IN WOMEN’S SYNCHRO 3M SPRINGBOARD 25.07.2015, 20:10 Today the Aquatics Palace hosted the women’s synchronised 3m springboard final SPORT where four-time Olympic champion Wu Minxia and double world champion Shi Tingmao won their second straight world title with 351.30 points. At the previous World Championships in Barcelona, the Chinese duet Wu Minxia and Shi Tingmao finished way ahead of their opponents edging out the Italian favourite Tania Cagnotto (ITA) with 30 points and leaving Canadian athlete, Jennifer Abel, far behind. By the way, together with Pamela Ware, the latter finished second at the leg of the FINA Diving World Series in Kazan, being beaten again by the same Chinese duet but pushing Russia’s Nadezhda Bazhina and Kristina Ilinykh into the bronze-medal place. Before the event, Tania Cagnotto of Italy considered athletes from China, Australia, Canada and Russia to be her main opponents. Another serious challenge was expected to come from US diver Abigail Johnston, the London 2012 Olympic silver medallist. All in all, it looked like a promising event. The very first dive was pretty much decisive; after scoring 55.20 the Chinese athletes took the lead at once. Meanwhile, the Australian and Italian divers were hard on their heels. The Malaysian athletes eventually placed 12th. In the third dive, the Italian divers faced some problems with synchronicity, which was pretty risky at the moment as by that time they were only one point ahead of the Canadian duet.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 9, 2016 SPORTS ROWING Testing the water on Rio’s lagoon RIO DE JANEIRO: Fernanda Lima is on the frontline of the campaign to ensure that the water of Rio’s Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, venue for the Olympic rowing regatta, is safe and clean. Every morning at 6 a.m., she and a pilot jump into a motorboat and visit four different points on the lagoon. She uses the powers of her nose and eyes, as well as more technical gear, to test the water quality and report back for the World Rowing Federation’s (FISA) daily assessment. “It’s important work,” she said, sitting down with a coffee at the Lagoa Stadium after the morning run. The water quality at the lagoon and at Guanabara Bay, site of the sailing events, has been a big worry since Rio was awarded the games. The lagoon boasts a spectacular setting, lying north of the storied Ipanema beach area and over- looked by forested mountains, including Corcovado and the Christ the Redeemer statue. • LEN Awards: Hosszu and Peaty Head the Winners' List
http://www.fina-budapest2017.com/en/news/353/len-awards-hosszu-and-peaty-head-the-winners-list LEN Awards: Hosszu and Peaty head the winners’ list 2017.03.16. 08:43 CET Returning greats and new names appear among the 2016 LEN Awards’ winners. Adam Peaty (GBR) and Katinka Hosszu (HUN) are heading the list receiving the most votes among the swimmers. Peaty is honoured for the first time while this was Hosszu’s fourth straight win in the women’s field. The LEN Awards are voted by the LEN Member Federations and members of the various LEN Committees and Commissions since 2008. European athletes enjoyed another outstanding season in 2016, with plenty of success at the Olympic Games and at the various European Championships. In swimming Adam Peaty clinched his first LEN Awards – it’s also a first for Great Britain among the men –, while Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu finished atop for the fourth time in a row. Both warmed up with four gold medals apiece at the European Championships in London, then clinched gold and set new World Records at the Olympics. In fact, Hosszu had three titles and a silver in Rio and later added seven short-course World Championships titles to her tally. Tania Cagnotto clinched her 7th LEN Award in diving, it was her 6th straight win, both are records in the history of the voting. The Italian diva was the best female diver in London at the Europeans, then in Rio she managed to crown her outstanding career by making the Olympic podium at last, on her fifth try.
