• Became the first UH student-athlete to win an AIAW national championship • Was the first nationally-acclaimed student-athlete in UH history. and was the first student-athlete to win three consecutive national championships. • Held seven world records, 10 American short course records and 14 American long-course records during her outstanding career. • Finished as the AIAW National Runner up in the 100-yard butterfly in both 1979 and 1980.

• Represented the United States at the 1956 Olympic Games in STAFFCOACHING • Received 24 All-America honors during her outstanding collegiate career, Melbourne, Australia, and tied for first in the 100-meter backstroke the most by any Cougar swimmer or diver. but was awarded the silver medal by the judges.

HISTORY/RECORDS One of the most legendary figures in Houston athletics history, diver Yulia Pakhalina was a five-time NCAA National Champion. In both 2001 and 2003, Pakhalina was victorious in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives and was named NCAA Diver of the Year. Pakhalina also won five Olympic medals, including a Gold in Sydney in 2000. 26
