Spanish Cinema Developing skills in Android applications and programming e-commerce platforms 2016-1-RO01-KA102-023317 Made by: Alina Radacina & Nicolae Dumitrescu Spanish cinema The art of motion-picture making within the Kingdom of Spain or by Spanish filmmakers abroad is collectively known as Spanish Cinema. In recent years, Spanish cinema has achieved high marks of recognition. In the long history of Spanish cinema, the great filmmaker Luis Buñuel was the first to achieve universal recognition, followed by Pedro Almodóvar in the 1980s. Spanish cinema has also seen international success over the years with films by directors like Segundo de Chomón, Florián Rey, Luis García Berlanga, Juan Antonio Bardem, Carlos Saura, Julio Médem and Alejandro Amenábar. Woody Allen, upon receiving the prestigious Prince of Asturias Award in 2002 in Oviedo remarked: "when I left New York, the most exciting film in the city at the time was Spanish, Pedro Almodóvar's one. I hope that Europeans will continue to lead the way in film making because at the moment not much is coming from the United States." Los cronicrimenes "Los cronicrimenes" or "Time crimes", is a well known spanish movie from 2008 with an imdb rating of 8.2, which hit the boxoffice hard back then. Directed by Nacho Vigalondo, the movie is the winner of 8 film awards in total, from which: "Austin Fantastic Fest", "Austin Film Critics Association" and "Philadelphia Film Festival". Los cronicrimenes The film is about a time travel with a little bit of horror thrown in. A man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences. El labirinto del fauno Maybe one of the most iconic and captivating movie out of this list, the action in "El labirinto del fauno" or "Pan's Labyrinth" is set in an imaginative gothic fairytail world in Spain, during the WW II. El labirinto del fauno In 1944 falangist Spain, a girl, fascinated with fairy-tales, is sent along with her pregnant mother to live with her new stepfather, a ruthless captain of the Spanish army. During the night, she meets a fairy who takes her to an old faun in the center of the labyrinth. He tells her she's a princess, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. If she fails, she will never prove herself to be the the true princess and will never see her real father, the king, again. [Rec](2007) A television reporter and cameraman follow emergency workers into a dark apartment building and are quickly locked inside with something terrifying. Directors: Jaume Balagueró, Paco Plaza Writers: Jaume Balagueró, Luiso Berdejo Actors: Manuela Velasco-Ángela Vidal Ferran Terraza-Manu Jorge-Yamam Serrano - Policía Joven El orfanato(2007) A woman brings her family back to her childhood home, which used to be an orphanage for handicapped children. Before long, her son starts to communicate with an invisible new friend. Director: J.A. Bayona Writer: Sergio G. Sánchez Belén Rueda - Laura Fernando Cayo-Carlos Roger Príncep-Simón Penélope Cruz Born: April 28, 1974 Penélope Cruz Sánchez is a spanish actress and model. Signed by an agent at age 15, she made her acting debut at 16 on television and her feature film debut the following year in "Jamon, Jamon" (1992) to critical acclaim. Cruz achieved recognition for her lead roles in the 2001 films Vanilla Sky, All the Pretty Horses, Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Blow. But, she is most recognised by her role as Angelica in the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", playing alongside ("The God") Johnny Depp. Ocho apellidos vascos(2014) Rafael, a Sevillian who has never left Andalucia, decides to leave his homeland to follow Amaia, a Basque girl unlike other women whom he has ever known. Director: Emilio Martínez Lázaro (as Emilio Martínez-Lázaro) Writers: Borja Cobeaga, Diego San José Clara Lago ... Amaia Dani Rovira ... Rafa Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados (2013) In Spain in 1966, an English teacher picks up two hitchhikers on his quest to meet John Lennon. Director: David Trueba Writer: David Trueba Cast: Javier Cámara-Antonio Natalia de Molina-Belén Francesc Colomer-Juanjo Abre los ojos This film is a somewhat more classic drama from the early 2000 containing the following storyline: once handsome playboy, César finds himself in a mental facility and he can't remember why. All he can remember is meeting the love of his life in the person of Sofia for one day, and then getting into a car accident which left his face horribly disfigured. But the pain of becoming physically undesirable may help him to find the truth. Abre los ojos The movie has a great cast containing: Fele Martinez in the role of Pelayo, Eduardo Noriega as the main male character, Cesar and the more popular name in this list, Penelope Cruz as Sofia. Also, the more special thing about this movie is the fact that the script was written after the horrible nightmares that Alejandro Amenabar, the writer and the director of the movie, was having during a bad flu. http://www.imdb.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page https://theculturetrip.com/europe/spain/articles/the-10-funniest-spanish-language- comedies/ http://www.tasteofcinema.com/2015/10-great-spanish-horror-films-that-are-worth- your-time/2/ Calarasi, 26 martie 2017 .

Page 117 FILM REVIEWS Year of the Remake: The Omen 666 and The Wicker Man Jenny McDonnell The current trend for remakes of 1970s horror movies continued throughout 2006, with the release on 6 June of John Moore’s The Omen 666 (a sceneforscene reconstruction of Richard Donner’s 1976 The Omen) and the release on 1 September of Neil LaBute’s The Wicker Man (a reimagining of Robin Hardy’s 1973 film of the same name). In addition, audiences were treated to remakes of The Hills Have Eyes, Black Christmas (due Christmas 2006) and When a Stranger Calls (a film that had previously been ‘remade’ as the opening sequence of Scream). Finally, there was Pulse, a remake of the Japanese film Kairo, and another addition to the body of remakes of nonEnglish language horror films such as The Ring, The Grudge and Dark Water. Unsurprisingly, this slew of remakes has raised eyebrows and questions alike about Hollywood’s apparent inability to produce innovative material. As the remakes have mounted in recent years, from Planet of the Apes to King Kong, the cries have grown ever louder: Hollywood, it would appear, has run out of fresh ideas and has contributed to its evergrowing bank balance by quarrying the classics. Amid these accusations of Hollywood’s imaginative and moral bankruptcy to commercial ends in tampering with the films on which generations of cinephiles have been reared, it can prove difficult to keep a level head when viewing films like The Omen 666 and The Wicker Man.

  • Women and Haunted Houses in the Films of Jaume Balagueró: the Nightmares Of
Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, published by Liverpool University Press Published in Volume 96, Issue 6, pp. 641-653 : https://doi.org/10.3828/bhs.2019.38 Women and Haunted Houses in the Films of Jaume Balagueró: The Nightmares of Presence Ann Davies University of Stirling Abstract Jaume Balagueró has developed a successful resumé of horror films that show a decided preference for the classic Gothic motif of the haunted house and the Gothic heroine who investigates its interior. This paper touches first on the Derridean concept of ‘dreams of presence’ (as theorized by cultural geographer Mitch Rose), in order to propose the ‘nightmares of presence’ in which the relationship, the call to care or commitment, between the subject and the space in which the subject dwells or moves is Gothicised but nonetheless remains to tie the subject to the space concerned. It then focuses on Balagueró’s Los sin nombre, Fragile and [REC] to consider three very different Gothic heroines: the mother of a dead daughter, a nurse in a children’s hospital, and a television reporter. The antagonistic call to care of the ‘nightmare of presence’ will be used to interrogate spatial aspects of the Gothic heroine.

  • An Investigation of Priming, Self-Consciousness, and Allegiance in the Diegetic Camera Horror Film
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Oxford Brookes University: RADAR An investigation of priming, self-consciousness, and allegiance in the diegetic camera horror film by Peter Turner A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the award of Doctor of Philosophy by Oxford Brookes University Submitted June 2017 Statement of originality Some of the discussion of The Blair Witch Project throughout this thesis has formed the basis for a book, Devil’s Advocates: The Blair Witch Project (Auteur, 2014). Some of the discussion of priming in chapter four was also used in a conference paper, Behind the Camera: Priming the Spectator of Found Footage Horror, delivered at The Society for Cognitive Studies of the Moving Image in 2015. Sections on personal imagining also formed the basis of a conference paper, Personal Imagining and the Point-of-View Shot in Diegetic Camera Horror Films, delivered at The Society for Cognitive Studies of the Moving Image in 2017. Finally, significant amounts of Chapter 3 and Chapter 5 will be featured in two chapters of an upcoming edited collection on found footage horror films with the working title [Rec] Terror: Essays on Found Footage Horror Films. i Abstract The main research question underpinning this study asks why and how the diegetic camera technique has become so popular to both contemporary horror filmmakers and audiences. In order to answer this question, this thesis adopts a mainly cognitive theoretical framework in order to address the mental schemata and processes that are elicited and triggered by these films.
