Red Knight Hockey 2017 Yearbook 2016-17 Red Knight Hockey 1 Red Knight Hockey 2017 Yearbook 2017 Final Rankings The 2016-17 Red Knight season was a ride that had so many twists — turns — stops/starts — and heartache — that by the 1 Grand Rapids .............................................23-7-1 time it was over, most Red Knight hockey fans had endured a 2 Moorhead ...................................................24-4-3 challenging season by any measure. In terms of on ice success, 3 Eden Prairie ...............................................23-5-2 4 Holy Family Catholic ..................................22-5-1 it was not up to the standards of excellence that have been 5 Lakeville South ...........................................19-11-1 synonymous with the Red and White. 6 St. Thomas Academy ..................................25-5-1 7 Maple Grove ...............................................22-8-0 At the season’s start the team knew the difficulties that lay ahead. 8 Hill-Murray .................................................19-7-4 We sailed into dark and troubled waters with the faith that we 9 Stillwater Area ...........................................24-4-0 could come out on the other side. 10 Centennial .................................................22-5-1 11 Edina .........................................................20-7-1 It would be anything but easy. The team would need to replace 17 12 Elk River/Zimmerman ................................22-5-0 varsity regulars from the previous season — inexperience, illness 13 Lakeville North ...........................................20-6-2 and injury would be the team’s constant companion. 14 Duluth East ................................................18-9-1 15 Minnetonka ................................................15-12-0 There would be no long stretches of victories that would result in a title of any sort. But there were moments when the team would shine. Big regular season victories over Duluth Marshall, St. Louis Park, and Wayzata would serve as high water marks. Great battles against the state’s very best teams would push our team to fight to the end. On Senior Night, the Red Knights avenged an earlier loss to Bloomington Jefferson by downing the Jaguars 5-1. These were the moments of grace where anything seemed possible. The Red Knights have been ranked among the top teams in Minnesota for the better part of two decades. The Red Knights of 2016-17 would not enjoy that lofty perch. However, this does not negate their effort and work. Character and achievement are often found in places other than a box score. The challenges that faced this year’s team were formidable. The Red Knights embraced these challenges and in the process they forged an identity that gave them a chance to win. The memories and lessons of this past season will serve as the impetus for another run of success. Tradition does not graduate, and our graduating Red Knights are proudly a part of our past and our future.
