These tours have either been part of field trips exploring specific areas of STEM or simply as part of Government and our Rugby team hopefully beat the their annual school tour for the class, year or even the entire Welsh! school! We are also delighted to be involved and get behind all the national all STEM weeks, Science, Space, Maths, Engineers and Tech week. Another great success for us is our involvement in BTYSE, ESB Science Blast, Cork Carnival of Science and Frontiers of Physics and many other public events such as Electric Picnic, Kaleidoscope ensuring we support and bring STEM to life in a fun and entertaining way, thus driving greater awareness and engagement beyond the walls of Explorium. Another key feature of what we aim to do here in Explorium is by raising the critical national and global issue such climate action in an inspiring, engaging way, for our many thousands of young visitors who are the bright minds of the future. While I have no doubt that today will be very busy and productive for the Association and all the delegates, I encourage you to take time out and engage with our staff and explore our venue. I’m sure you’ll be blown away! Explorium, the new National Sports and Science Centre, has been up and running for a year now and what we have created Finally, before you leave don’t forget to speak with our sales here is something truly special and unique in terms of bringing team to examine the various School Tour packages available every aspect of STEM to life in a fun and engaging way for that cover all aspects of STEM. all. Managing Director A key feature of what we offer in Explorium is the creation of a very special atmosphere and energy through our people which enhances the overall experience for all our visitors. This, we hope, will ignite the curiosity to explore or question something they’ve seen, heard or experienced during their visit. In Explorium we have a team of 100. Our Science team under the guidance of Mark Langtry have a vast array of qualifications covering all areas of Science and STEM. Such a diverse range of people from all backgrounds are positive STEM role models for all our curious visitors. We have also partnered with initiatives promoting girls in STEM, like AWS Girls in Tech Day.

Institution School of Psychology, UCD

Biography Prof Aidan Moran is Full Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Director of the Psychology Research Laboratory in UCD. A Fulbright Scholar and Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (USA), his research uses imagery tests and eye-tracking technology to investigate the cognitive processes underlying expertise in skilled performers (e.g., elite athletes, surgeons). He has published extensively on these topics in international journals in psychology, neuroscience, medicine and sport science. He has also written 19 books, incuding Managing Your Own Learning at University: A Practical Guide (3rd ed; 2018, UCD Press). A former psychologist to the Irish Olympic Squad, he has advised many of Ireland’s leading professional athletes/teams (e.g., the Irish rugby team) and has authored a number of audiobooks on sport psychology (e.g., Mental Toughness in Golf, see Mindcool website).

Abstract Most of our cognitive skills are so fast, fluent and effortless that we notice them only when they let us down occasionally. So, how can we improve our mental sharpness? The purpose of this lecture is to provide some practical tips to enhance your memory and concentration skills – especially when learning.

Most different interpretations of the specifications by teachers, students and policy-makers. recently, Humphrey was a co-organiser of Ireland’s first ResearchED Conference, hosted at St. Columba’s in October 2019.

Abstract After years of campaigning by IASTA and other various organisations, the NCCA finally introduced a new subject specification for Agricultural Science in 2019 – the previous syllabus had been in place since the late 1960’s. The new specification finally brings the subject content into the 21st century and incorporates more modern agricultural practices, along with a greater emphasis on technology, sustainable agriculture, health and safety and policy. The new subject specification, which uses a similar learning outcomes based structure to the Junior Cycle Science curriculum, also subsumes the old Agricultural Economics course. In this talk, Humphrey will talk about his experience of implementing the new course, the opportunities presented and challenges faced since September.
