Many of these are brand-new with their SALE NO.original 113 boxes, many show scant use and some are merely good collectible examples. The hand guns are listed below, the long arms start at lot #2369. They are all identified with [Walter “Walt” Rauch Collection] 2000. SMITH & WESSON MODEL 5906 SEMI-AUTO PISTOL serial #AIP0708, 9mm, 4” barrel with an excellent bore. The matte stainless steel surfaces rate very good to excellent with light scattered scratches. The checkered black synthetic factory grips rate near excellent with a few handling marks. This pistol is equipped with factory three dot sights and ambidextrous slide mounted de-cockers. The white paint in the dots of the rear sight is missing but easily replaced. The pistol includes four factory magazines. Two magazine have fourteen round capacity and the other two are fifteen round capacity (later magazines increased capacity by one round). (88100-151) {MODERN} [Walter “Walt” Rauch Collection] (300/500) 2001. SMITH & WESSON MODEL 642 CENTENNIAL AIRWEIGHT REVOLVER serial #BKA0549, 38 Special, 1 7/8” barrel with an excellent bore. This revolver retains about 96% frosted satin finish on the alloy frame and the remaining stainless steel parts rate about good to very good with scattered light handling marks, wear marks and a turn ring on the cylinder. The revolver is fitted with later added Crimson Trace checkered synthetic and rubber laser grips that are fully functional and rate excellent. The smooth combat trigger has been polished and edges rounded. The front sight and ramp has been removed and a XS Sight Systems large dot sight with Tritium insert dovetailed to the barrel; the insert no longer glows. The revolver includes the original factory box that is correctly end labeled and numbered to the gun, manual and paperwork. (88100-109) {MODERN} [Walter “Walt” Rauch Collection] (300/500) 2002. SMITH & WESSON MODEL 10-10 MILITARY & POLICE REVOLVER serial #CBU1746, 38 Special, 4” heavy barrel with an excellent bore. The metal surfaces 2002 retain about 99% factory blue with scattered light scratch- es and a turn ring on the cylinder. The standard hammer and smooth combat trigger retain bold case-hardened colors with minor operational marks. The checkered rubber finger groove factory round butt Uncle Mike’s combat grips rate good with most of the loss on the right panel which exhibits several heat damaged areas. The revolver includes a factory hard case that is correctly end labeled and numbered to the gun, manual and paperwork. This revolver appears to have seen minimum use. The M.I.M.’s smooth combat trigger and standard hammer retain strong but unremarkable case-hardened colors. Photographs of many previously unphotographed handguns have been included as well as photographs of guns in partially disassembled condition giving a better view of their constructi on and operation. In PART I of Volume Ill , tables are prese nted on rifling characteristics of automatic pistols, revolvers and nonautomatic pistols and rifles. As an aid to identification, material has been organized into tables, arranged by caliber, number of grooves and directi on of twist. Since, as the author pointed out, the firearms examiner may often be concerned with arms of older vintage , there is an extensive discussion in PART II of less well known American made hand guns fr om the peri od 1850 to 19 10. In Section 1 o f PART III are found original pho tographs of automatic pistols, arranged by caliber.

    Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard Safety Policy and Procedures Purpose The purpose of this document is to establish standardized Safety Policy and Procedures for the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution to be adopted by the National, State and Chapter Color Guards to promote uniformity for multi-state events and to facilitate the acquisition of liability insurance coverage for the Color Guard. State Societies may in their discretion adopt more stringent standards if desirable or required by the laws of their state. Policies A. Insurance: 1. All chapter and/or state societies that have compatriots firing weapons shall have a liability insurance policy that covers events at which Black Powder is fired. 2. All liability insurance policies obtained by a Chapter or State shall name the respective State Society and National Society as additional insureds. B. Training: 1. Before carrying a weapon at an SAR event, all compatriots will be trained in the safe handling of that weapon even if they are not firing. 2. Any compatriot who will be firing shall be additionally trained in the safe operation and firing of their firearm. 3. The recognized standards for training shall be (1) the National Park Service Manual of Instruction for the Safe Use of Reproduction Flintlock Rifles & Muskets in Interpretive Demonstrations (1/21/2010), (2) the NRA NMLRA Basic Muzzle Loading Shooting Course or (3) an equivalent training course taught by an instructor who has been certified by the appropriate State Color Guard Commander. If the color guardsman receives training from an outside source such as the NRA or NPS, the State Color Guard Commander or his designee will examine the color guardsman for familiarity with SAR uses of a firelock and provide additional training as necessary.

It is proposed to examine the pistol in British military service in the Great War, covering issue and use, technique and training, and procurement. Approximately half a million pistols were procured during the war, making it one of the numerically most widely issued weapons. A number of Corps, including the Machine Gun Corps, Tank Corps, and Royal Flying Corps were issued pistols as personal weapons, as well as extensive distribution in other arms. It is known that pistol use was widespread in trench warfare and critical on occasions. Decorations, including several Victoria Crosses, are recorded as being won by men using them aggressively.

IIB 20 T The first sub-variant - the IIA - was modelled after the IIC 8 design export CV-707, which served in the Finnish Navy IID 16 under the name Vesikko. The next variant was the Type IIB, which was longer and heavier than the IIA. Two further variants - the IIC and IID - followed. In total 50 Type IIs served in the German Kriegsmarine prior to and during World War II. Space was very cramped inside these diminutive boats. Due to their small size and tendency to roll, the Type IIs were known as Einbaum - “dug-out canoes” - by their crews. Indeed they only carried six torpedoes, which could only be fired from the bow through three forward torpedo tubes. Range was also limited, meaning that they operated mainly in the North Sea from ports in Germany. Nevertheless a number of Type IIs, with a crew of between 22 and 24, performed well during war patrols. Several very successful commanders - Otto Kretschmer in U 23, Erich Topp in U 57 and Adalbert Schnee in U 6 and U 60 - learned their trade on Type IIs before moving to the larger ocean-going Type VII boats. The Type IIAs, IIBs and IICs were all used during the invasion of Norway, after which the IIAs and IIBs were relegated to training flotillas.

    Probable extinction of the western black rhino Yemen’s attitudes towards rhino horn and jambiyas Lucy Vigne, Esmond Martin PO Box 15510 – 00503, Nairobi, Kenya; email: [email protected] Abstract In 1990 the Marxist government of the south that had banned civilians from possessing weapons, including the jambiya dagger, was ousted. South Yemen united with North Yemen to form one country. Were more people in the south going to emulate the northerners and buy jambiyas once again? Having not been in the southern region since 1993, we surveyed five main southern towns in early 2008 to see if influences from the north had encouraged the southerners to wear jambiyas in recent years. In many ways the southerners are emulating the northerners: they have shed Marxism in favour of capitalism and there has been an increase in traditional Islamic practices, but they still look down on jambiyas. However, the dagger is still a proud sign of being a northern tribesman, and Sanaa remains the centre of the jambiya industry - with rhino horn most favoured for handles; Taiz trails a distant second in importance. We learned more about the attitudes of Yemenis, especially from the younger more prosperous men in Sanaa who are likely to buy a rhino horn jambiya. And we increased public awareness on the plight of the rhino, distributing DVDs on Yemen’s rhino horn trade and supplying other educational materials to Yemenis in Sanaa and Taiz.
