La Reforma De La Curia Romana Del Papa Francisco Pope Francis Reform of the Roman Curia
Abstract Catholic Church has carried out several reforms of the Roman Curia, semper reformanda, in accordance to the requirements of the new times, the ecclesiastical life and the conciliar spirit. 1 Dr. en Teología Dogmática y en Derecho y en Protocolo. The Catholic Church in the Czech Republic
The Catholic Church in the Czech Republic Dear Readers, The publication on the Ro- man Catholic Church which you are holding in your hands may strike you as history that belongs in a museum. How- ever, if you leaf through it and look around our beauti- ful country, you may discover that it belongs to the present as well. Many changes have taken place. The history of the Church in this country is also the history of this nation. And the history of the nation, of the country’s inhabitants, always has been and still is the history of the Church. The Church’s mission is to serve mankind, and we want to fulfil Jesus’s call: “I did not come to be served but to serve.” The beautiful and unique pastoral constitution of Vatican Coun- cil II, the document “Joy and Hope” begins with the words: “The joys and the hopes, the grief and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the grief and anxieties of the followers of Christ.” This is the task that hundreds of thousands of men and women in this country strive to carry out. According to expert statistical estimates, approximately three million Roman Catholics live in our country along with almost twenty thousand of our Eastern broth- ers and sisters in the Greek Catholic Church, with whom we are in full communion. There are an additional million Christians who belong to a variety of other Churches. Ecumenical cooperation, which was strengthened by decades of persecution and bullying of the Church, is flourishing remarkably in this country. -
Tremors Abound As the Vatican’S Embezzlement Trial Begins
Tremors abound as the Vatican’s embezzlement trial begins A criminal trial opened in Vatican City court on Tuesday that sees a once-powerful curial cardinal charged with embezzlement, criminal conspiracy and abuse of office. Joining Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu in the dock are nine other individuals — eight lay persons and one mid-level cleric — on various charges including extortion, fraud, conspiracy, money-laundering and forgery. By any measure, the business is a really big deal. Pope Francis forced Cardinal Becciu to resign as prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in 2020, and the pope also stripped him of the rights and privileges of his cardinal’s rank. Francis ordered a major criminal investigation and changed Vatican City law — the “civil” law that governs Vatican City State — so cardinals would be subject to trial in the City’s “regular” criminal courts. For his part, Cardinal Becciu on Tuesday renewed his protestations of innocence and pronounced himself “serene” before Vatican justice. He also told his lawyers to prepare lawsuits for slander, to be filed against Msgr. Alberto Perlasca — a key prosecution witness who was once at the center of the London deal — and Immacolata Chaouqui, a former Vatican official and central figure in the second VatiLeaks trial, who has said some very unflattering things about Cardinal Becciu to the press, some of which made it into the prosecutors’ paper filings. “I have always been obedient to the pope,” Cardinal Becciu told journalists after Tuesday’s hearing. “He has entrusted me with many missions in my life. He wanted me to come to trial, and I am coming to the trial.” Besides Cardinal Becciu, Msgr. -
M Franchi Thesis for Library
The London School of Economics and Political Science Mediated tensions: Italian newspapers and the legal recognition of de facto unions Marina Franchi A thesis submitted to the Gender Institute of the London School of Economics for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, London, May 2015 1 Declaration I certify that the thesis I have presented for examination for the MPhil/PhD degree of the London School of Economics and Political Science is solely my own work. The copyright of this thesis rests with the author. Quotation from it is permitted, provided that full acknowledgement is made. This thesis may not be reproduced without my prior written consent. I warrant that this authorisation does not, to the best of my belief, infringe the rights of any third party. I declare that my thesis consists of 88924 words. Statement of use of third party for editorial help (if applicable) I can confirm that my thesis was copy edited for conventions of language, spelling and grammar by Hilary Wright 2 Abstract The recognition of rights to couples outside the institution of marriage has been, and still is, a contentious issue in Italian Politics. Normative notions of family and kinship perpetuate the exclusion of those who do not conform to the heterosexual norm. At the same time the increased visibility of kinship arrangements that evade the heterosexual script and their claims for legal recognition, expose the fragility and the constructedness of heteronorms. During the Prodi II Government (2006-2008) the possibility of a law recognising legal status to de facto unions stirred a major controversy in which the conservative political forces and the Catholic hierarchies opposed any form of recognition, with particular acrimony shown toward same sex couples. -

Charting the Roles of Women in the Catholic Church
FutureChurch Charting the roles of women in the Catholic Church Current breakdown of male/female leadership in Vatican dicasteries Pope Francis has called for “a more incisive presence for women” in the Catholic Church. At the most recent Consistory of cardinals on February 12 and 13, 2015, Fr. Federico Lombardi reported that the cardinals expressed the hope of “an increasingly active role” for women. Although Pope Francis stated the door is closed on the question of ordination for women to the priesthood, he has been emphatic in his call for a stronger presence of women elsewhere. He recently appointed Sr. Mary Melone, the first women to date, to head a Pontifical University; Sr. Luzia Premoli, the first women to be appointed as a member of the Congregation on Evangelizat ion of Peoples, and has stated that women should take up positions of greater leadership within the Vatican. So how many women are in positions of leadership within the Curia? How many assert real influence? While it is difficult to accurately measure the level of influence women exercise, the chart below has been generated to further that discussion by showing the current roles women play now in Vatican congregations, pontifical councils, and other commissions, committees and offices. Secretariats, Congregations, and Pontifical Councils There are two secretariats, nine congregations and twelve pontifical councils. Below is a chart indicating the number of Vatican officials broken out in terms of male/female roles from undersecretary and above. Pope Francis Begins the Most Important Year of His Pontificate
Pope Francis begins the most important year of his pontificate Curia reform, new cardinals and trips to unexpected places will shape pope's 2020 Robert Mickens, Rome Vatican City January 2, 2020 • (Photo: Evandro Inetti/ZUMA Wire/MaxPPP) Anno Domini MMXX. When the history of Pope Francis' time as Bishop of Rome is finally written, there is a good chance that the Year of Our Lord 2020 will be recorded as the most important of his entire pontificate. Some are wondering whether it may actually be his last. The pope's recent decisions to "retire" the powerful Italian churchman Angelo Sodano as dean of the College of Cardinals and to make Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of the Philippines head one of the most powerful Vatican offices – Propaganda Fide – are being read as signs that Francis is beginning to prepare for the election of his successor on the Chair of Peter. The 83-year-old Jesuit pope will also be issuing two major documents in 2020, and probably a few others. He'll continue to travel the globe, possibly going to places where his predecessors had hoped to visit but were denied entry. And there's no doubt he will add more men to the illustrious red-hatted group from which will emerge the next Bishop of Rome. So any way one looks at this new calendar year, it will almost certainly prove to be pivotal. The Synod paves the way to reform Pope Francis is to publish at least two extremely important documents already in the initial weeks of 2020. -
