Great success for Oerlikon Graziano hybrid transmission, which had a leading role at Rallylegend event, held in San Marino from 12 to 14 October

Rivoli (Torino – Italy), Oct 17, 2012 – The new Lancia Rally 037 4WD-H attracts the attention of press and public during the 10th Rallylegend 2012, in San Marino Republic. Oerlikon Graziano participated in the development of the 4WD hybrid, developing a specific new self-locking front differential.

Finally revealed the new Lancia Rally 037 4WD-H, the first prototype of a sports car with hybrid electric 4WD, fully developed by a team of Turin-based companies, leader in power transmission technology.

The project is an idea of Claudio Lombardi (CEO of Abarth and Lancia Corse from 1982 to 1991) and Giuseppe Volta (along with his well-known Team Rally Car Racing), transforming the legendary Lancia 037 rear-wheel drive, an icon in the world of rally cars, in an innovative hybrid 4WD vehicle.

Oerlikon Graziano, world leader in the design, development and production of transmissions for high-level sports cars, has drawn on its experience in the electric drive sector to develop the front hybrid axle module, to match the motor, developed by ACTUA, a company specialized in advanced propulsion systems.

The collaboration between the two companies has created a true laboratory on wheels, thanks to a team that has followed the project with great passion, working on the same wavelength. In a very short time, just ten weeks from the project kick off, the team brought the classic Lancia 037 to the future, experiencing how high-performance hybrid cars could be in the years to come.

The Rallylegend was the opportunity to experience for the first time on the road an hybrid driveline in a classic sports car. All demonstration sessions showed how resilient an hybridized driveline can be to a race use.

During 2013 Lancia Rally 037 4WD-H and the new Oerlikon Graziano transmission will be involved in a number of other events to promote this important technological innovation.
