Once again everyone in the association has worked hard to achieve a successful fixture competition across junior and senior grass and turf competitions, development of players, umpires, coaches and technical officials and successful performances at state championships. The results of these activities are listed elsewhere in this report and a brief summary is provided here to put this effort into context. • Ran hockey fixture competitions for juniors, seniors and masters, at five turf venues and two grass venues, for over 3,300 registered players. Player numbers have increased marginally over both junior and senior divisions. • Sent 20 teams to compete at State Championships for Super League, Festival of Hockey, U18, U15, U13 and Masters as well as 4 teams competing in the U11 Southern Cross at Downey Park. The ability of these teams is evident in that BWHA finished the rep season with 4 first and 2 second placings across the 6 Tournaments, it was a great achievement to be in every State Championship first division final. We have continued to actively work with clubs to ensure inappropriate on-field and sideline behaviour is minimised, and comprehensively dealt with when it occurs. Clubs have committed to managing their players and spectators, reinforcing good behaviour, and dealing with bad behaviour. We will continue to work with clubs to ensure these actions are maintained. We continue to work with Brisbane Hockey Association (BHA) and Kedron Wavell Services Hockey Club (KWSHC) to administer the Brisbane Hockey Management Group (BHMG), which manages the Burringbar turf facility. Funding has been secured for a second turf and a Development Application is underway with Brisbane City Council to start construction works. All effort is being made to have the second field ready for the 2018 season, and the remaining grass field remediated. The future of Hockey Zone has also been under the microscope, since we lack funding support for this initiative from other hockey bodies. A survey conducted to ascertain ongoing interest highlighted the popularity of HockeyZone both intra- and inter-state and we have committed to continue with this initiative for another year. Hockey Zone is a considerable investment by both BWHA and BHA, and we will persevere with seeking further funding sources. Much effort has gone into pursuing council approval to construct turf fields at Downey Park, with little success to date - further details are available in the Vice-President’s report.
