Charlottenplatz 17 – 70173 Stuttgart PRESSEINFORMATION SHINEDOWN 23. Get Up“ SKS Michael Russ GmbH – Charlottenplatz 17 – 70173 Stuttgart www.michaelrussgmbh.de – [email protected] .

  • Named Entity Recognition for Search Queries in the Music Domain
DEGREE PROJECT IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING, SECOND CYCLE, 30 CREDITS STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN 2016 Named Entity Recognition for Search Queries in the Music Domain SANDRA LILJEQVIST KTH ROYAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND COMMUNICATION Named Entity Recognition for Search Queries in the Music Domain SANDRA LILJEQVIST [email protected] Master’s Thesis in Computer Science School of Computer Science and Communication KTH Royal Institute of Technology Supervisor: Olov Engwall Examiner: Viggo Kann Principal: Spotify AB Stockholm - June 2016 Abstract This thesis addresses the problem of named entity recogni- tion (NER) in music-related search queries. NER is the task of identifying keywords in text and classifying them into predefined categories. Previous work in the field has mainly focused on longer documents of editorial texts. However, in recent years, the application of NER for queries has attracted increased attention. This task is, however, ac- knowledged to be challenging due to queries being short, ungrammatical and containing minimal linguistic context. The usage of NER for queries is especially useful for the implementation of natural language queries in domain- specific search applications. These applications are often backed by a database, where the query format otherwise is restricted to keyword search or the usage of a formal query language. In this thesis, two techniques for NER for music-related queries are evaluated; a conditional random field based so- lution and a probabilistic solution based on context words. As a baseline, the most elementary implementation of NER, commonly applied on editorial text, is used. Both of the evaluated approaches outperform the baseline and demon- strate an overall F1 score of 79.2% and 63.4% respectively.

We very easily could have been absorbed into the mainstream society. The pressures were there from all sides. No matter. We are here. Despite direct assimilation attempts. Particular attention is put on The Legend of Zelda from 1986, the first 3D Zelda installment, Ocarina of Time in 1998, and Dark Souls from 2011. This is a fictional story heavily inspired by those games and many others, but the story and characters are original, including a queer/gender bending protagonist. The story-line is a creative work that emulates the underlining philosophy of fantasy video games such as Zelda and Dark Souls, re-imagining video game design and personal gaming experiences as prose. 1 ~ Soul of Zelda ~ A Memoir of an Ephemeral Muse by Mitchell Kopitch Turn Page1 1 Book Equivalent of “Press Start”. 2 WORLD SELECTION: Poetics Statement Introduction: By the Author World I I-I: Intro Cinematic Interlude #1 - On Psychiatry I-II: Opening Interlude #2 - A Connection I-III: Character Creator Interlude #3 - Consumption World II II-I: Tutorial Interlude #4 - The Universe as Game II-II: Fast Travel Interlude #5 - On Labors of Love II-III: Mod Interlude #6 - Deprived World III III-I: Open World Interlude #7 - Extremity III-II: Dungeon Crawl Interlude #8 - The Male in the Room III-III: Boss Battle Interlude #9 - Of Demons and Memories Additional Content Attunement Exam 3 Poetics Statement When I parted ways with one of my roommates in college, he gave me his copy of Dark Souls (2011) as a parting gift.

This is not meant to terrify good people, but to faithfully represent the violence and ugliness of Satan and Hell so that you will hate and escape them. Nobody enjoys facing bad things, but if you want to close your eyes and not read about Satan and Hell, then consider for a moment: • When you hear noises in the basement at night, is it better to hide under your blanket, or to get your loaded gun and carefully investigate? • When you discover a strange lump in your body, is it better to pretend it’s not there, or to learn what it is and what can be done about it? • When a horde of barbarians is charging towards your town, is it better to gape at them in paralyzed fear, or to round up an army and try to defend yourself? • When you know that someday you will die, is it better to refuse to think about what might come after death, or to get the facts so you can freely choose where you will spend eternity? This book aims at correctly portraying Satan, Hell, and the damned, based on what we know from Holy Scripture and Church teaching.

1 Jeroen Buts Master Engels The Thematical and Stylistic Evolution of Heavy Metal Lyrics and Imagery From the 70s to Present Day Master scriptie Faculteit Letteren en Wijsbegeerte Promotor: Prof. Dr. Gert Buelens 2 Prologue You cannot make me feel guilty/ I don't give a shit about respect I won't join your moral masturbation/ I'm the prodigal son gone off the tracks You cannot make me feel sorry/ I don't give a damn about your pride I'm the cat-piss on your carpet/ The last crushing thought before you die Don't fit in your picture Don't fit in your world Don't match all the lies you feed your kids Feel no loyalty/ This deal was made without me Sure I never signed it/ Your contracts don't apply to me I'll fuck your dog/ Do you still wanna get along with me? I'd rape your daughter/ On payment of a small fee I'll fuck your dog/ Do you still wanna get along with me? I'd rape your daughter/ How much would you pay? (“Dead Serious and Highly Professional”, The Ocean) If someone were to tell you, dear reader, that heavy metal is just a louder, faster and more formulaic version of that popular musical genre which defined the late 70s, called hard rock, that someone would probably be wrong. The above lyric contains several elements which indicate just how incomplete such a statement would be. Most importantly, it divides those who read it almost instantly: a metal fan, even if his taste is for a different subgenre of metal, will recognize a specific quality in this text.

Old Wives’ Tales, or the Feminist Revisionist Tales: “The Angels Whisper,” “Unyielding Hatred,” and “The Wampus Woman.” By Kimberly Estenson In partial fulfillment of the degree Bachelor of Arts with Honors in English Wittenberg University April 9, 2019 2 Critical Analysis of Old Wives' Tales If the imagination is to transcend and transform experience it has to question, to challenge, to conceive of alternatives... nothing can be too sacred for the imagination to turn into its opposite or experimentally call by another name. - Adrienne Rich This past summer I came across a recent publication recommended on the New York Times Best Seller’s List, The Mere Wife by Maria Dahvana Headley. This novel retells the life of Beowulf’s classic villainess, Grendel’s mother. In The Mere Wife Grendel’s mother faces many of the same trials found in the original text; she is still at risk of losing her son, she is still hated by and excluded from society—in fact everything is the same, except that the narrative is now placed in a modern day, dystopian suburb. By placing a traditionally demonized figure in a contemporary context, I was moved by how the author was not only able to draw readers’ attention to Beowulf’s original problematic representation of women, but also how Headley was able to comment on issues women face today. Grendel’s mother faced issues in the original text such as not having a voice and having her worth being tied to her title as a mother, both of which seem strikingly similar to issues women face in the present.
