  • A Genealogical Dictionary of Individuals Buried in the Cemeteries of Hollis, New Hampshire
A Genealogical Dictionary of Individuals Buried in the Cemeteries of Hollis New Hampshire Volume Three East Cemetery compiled by Joan Child Tinklepaugh A Short History of East Cemetery East Cemetery was established in the mid 1800’s on property donated to the town by the Lovejoy Family. It was originally part of the the Augustus Lovejoy farm which was located on “Lovejoy Hill” on the road to Nashua (Broad Street). Ralph and Abby Lovejoy, the parents of Augustus are buried on the hill at East under a spreading tree. Many of their ancestors occupy lots elsewhere in the cemetery the family gave to the Town of Hollis that is located on Wheeler Road. This property was later added to by a gift from Henry Hildreth . The East Cemetery quickly became the major cemetery in Hollis by the early 1900’s as the town’s other cemeteries became over populated. Some of the burials in East are re-interments from other town cemeteries such as the Church Yard and South, There are about 1300 souls in East Cemetery, the earliest burial being that of Melvina Rideout in 1856. This cemetery also has the largest number of US War Veterans and contains the remains of those who fought in the US Civil War, the two World Wars, Korea and Vietnam. About this Genealogical Dictionary This volume includes all known persons in the East Cemetery of Hollis New Hampshire. Both marked and unmarked graves are included. Individuals are arranged in family groups and the family groups are arranged alphabetically. There is an index to all burials at the end of the volume where women are listed under their maiden names.

Of the many parties appealed to, to furnish the data on which many of the facts herein set forth, are founded, I cannot withhold the names of Hiram S.
