“Ahilyadevi Holkar: Life and Work” 12 & 13 March 2018

About Symposium: Holkar dynasty Queen of the kingdom Ahilyadevi Holkar (1767- 1795) is remembered as a noble, pious and courageous lady. Mankoji Shinde’s daughter born in small village of Chaundi in Jamkhed, Ahmednagar, rouse as Rajmata. She was a great ruler and administrator. She enforced various inclusive policies, made her a social reformer in a true sense. She has developed ‘’ as her capital with a sight of literary, musical, artistic and industrial enterprise. This great Maratha lady has developed various towns, constructed artesian wells, temples, and established textile industry. She entertained the famous Marathi poet, Moropant and the Shahir Ananta Phandi from Maharashtra and also patronized the scholars, Khushali Ram. Craftsmen, sculptors and artists received salaries and honours in her kingdom. Her social, cultural, political, administrative, economic, military and managerial contributions are revolutionary in present date. There is a need to explore her kaleidoscopic personality, work and life in the context of other social reformers in , which will help to motivate and sensitize the scholars, researchers, academicians, experts and leaders. Objectives of Symposium:

• To sensitize the scholars, researchers, academicians, experts, leaders about Rajmata Ahilyadevi Holkar and contribution in the society.

• To unfold various new aspects for the new researches in Maratha History, particularly the expansion of Maratha rule in 18th century
