As a musician, artist, philanthropist, and iconic rock figure, Slash has left a lasting imprint on the world that cannot be measured in a few short words. His trademark sound is as original as it is unmistakable. His body of work has given us some of rock's greatest anthems. From television and radio to professional sporting events, his music continues to provide a soundtrack for life. It's been nearly a quarter of a century since Saul "Slash" Hudson burst onto the scene with Guns 1 N Roses. The band's 1985 debut Appetite For Destruction is the second highest selling debut of all time and remains one of rock's most revered collections. Appetite has sold more than 18 million copies to date. Branded "The World's Most Dangerous Band," G N'R cemented its reputation as a live act by playing sold-out stadiums and arenas across the globe. During Slash's tenure with GN'R, the band released five studio albums, all of which went multi-platinum. In 2003, Slash formed Velvet Revolver with ex-Gunners Duff Mcl<agan and Matt Sorum. VR released two albums, Libertad, which spawned several chart topping singles and Contraband, the band's Gram my Award winning debut in 2005. Throughout his career Slash has amassed album sales nearing an astounding 100 million copies along with seven Grammy nominations along with countless other accolades, accomplishments and acknowledgements. In August 2009, Time magazine named him #2, behind Jimi Hendrix, on its list: The Ten Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time. In 2009, as the guest mentor, he was a part of American idol's eighth and highest-rated season. His many television appearances include Ellen, The Drew Carey Show and South Park. Never satisfied with resting on past laurels, Slash continues to evolve as a musician and an artist. Most recently, he's been in the studio recording a solo project filled with an array of special guests. The album, Slash is set for an April release date and includes collaborations with Fergie, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Grahl, l<id Rock, lggy Pop, Flea, Alice Cooper, and Adam Levine of Maroon 5, to name a few. 1 In the fall of '07, Slash released his long-awaited self-titled biography. He promoted the book by signing copies for fans in bookstores worldwide as well as making numerous guest appearances on the American talk show circuit with visits to David Letterman, Howard Stern, and Jimmy Kimmel. Critically well-received, the book climbed the bestseller list in both the US and Ul< on its way to selling more than 200,000 copies. In 2007, the popular video game Guitar Hero licensed Slash's image and music, producing an installment that shattered previous gaming records by selling over $100 million in its first week of release. The game would top over $800 million in total sales while opening the floodgates to a whole new generation of fans. Over the course of his illustrious career, Slash has performed for both royalty and Heads of State including the Queen of England and President Clinton. He has recorded and shared the stage with music's luminaries as diverse as Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, James Brown, and Ray Charles. As musical director at the 2005 Grammy Awards telecast, Slash led Stevie Wonder, Bono, Brian Wilson and Steven Tyler from Aerosmith through a stirring rendition of The Beatles' classic "Across The Universe." In 2003, he picked up another Grammy nomination for his impassioned interpretation of the Godfather theme, a contribution to the soundtrack for The Kid Stays in the Picture, a documentary about celebrated film producer and his long-time friend, Robert Evans.
